First of all you must understand that hymns are not mantras. Hymns are Vedic chants sung in praise of God Almighty. Mantras are small Scriptural phrases repeated recitation of which yields results abound. One may be traveling on any manifest level... the chanting of right mantras may land one at the level of Mahavira, Gautama Buddha, Jesus Christ or Prophet Mohammed. In the present times a handful of people... most revered spiritual Saints only know the mantras.
No religious person ever understands the meaning of a mantra. Religious people only sing praises of God absolutely unaware of the benefits of such rituals. I have observed people going to temples for many many years but to no avail. Merely following a ritual carries no meaning... unless we understand the gist of the sacred mantra... the desired effects would not be available.
Almost 99% people religiously follow rituals. Benefit or no benefit... they continue the routine on a daily basis. Can such people ever realize the cosmic truth! Salvation (moksha) can never be gained by simple chanting of the mantras. Every chanting of mantra must be followed by requisite karma. One may practice absolute celibacy for years... unless followed by the chanting of mantra... nothing much would yield on the spiritual plane!
When I wanted to cut across Prarabdha karma... I was absolutely stuck! No one to guide... I was completely lost! Years of logistical conclusions finally led me to the mantra for cutting across Prarabdha karma. And lo, I ultimately gained self realization! No It is not condition. But if u opt for that way means reciting mantras, then it might be possible that u will recite wrong and that could harm u instead of helping u. for example take case of Shir Bagula Mukhi Mantra this is very powerful mantra but if u forget adding even a halant (ֽ) in it then it would be destructive. On other way take example of Maharishi Balmik who wrote ramayana 10,000 years before the real episode happened. He recited MARA instead of RAMA (every 10 times he recited MARA get 9 complete RAMA) and got salvation. Then what is the need for reciting complex mantras. Simply recite RAMA or KRISHNA thats enough. Even if u are good by heart and feel grief and pain of others then u will definitely get salvation. Rama will give that to u. Then why to worry.

Mantras are helpful in changing ur thought pattern. But it is not necessary requirement for being a good human being. If u give positive auto suggestions to urself so that u do good deeds, be loving, compassionate ( not emotional), helpful to the extent of ur capacity, ability to feel for others and living upto ur words then u have made ur mark for a good human being. If u interpret any Mantra, it shows that they are also positive affirmations to ourselves only though it is worded in Sanskrit as earlier this was the only language which our saints knew. They spoke and wrote in sanskrit. So always be positive in ur thoughts and deeds under all situations so that u surmount all difficulties in life then u r a good human being. Make positive attitude a part of ur life.

The subculture of a place is in line with its Geographical situations. while each and all of the human beings staying in India and around, the place climate is comparable, can celebrate ... Sankrant, Holi, Raksha bandhan, Diwali, Bhaiya Duj,... as according to the climatic modifications, we are in a position to assert its Hindu Rashtra. this would properly be a Racial id to unite Indians who're happy with its large Philosophy. this would exchange our practise device, that's the backside, as Analytical like the Vedic cases. human beings from far will lower back come right here for Solace and psychological growth. which would be called HINDU RASHTRA.

i agree with ssrj above... some body has given you wrong information..
in hinduism we have a great liberty... even if we dont go to temples..dont follow rituals ... or recite mantras still we remain hindu
If you are really intrested in understanding hinduism, i suggest start from Gita, or some books of Sivananda... any book of David Frawley will be a good start.
If you are in search of Truth...you are a hindu that is sufficient
And the count above : dont criticise a faith... if you have narrow mind.. you like christianity ok be happy with it.. but u have to evolve a lot to understand hindu philosophy...what do you know about Hinduism btw ?

At the risk of sounding blunt, I believe that those Hindu 'mantras', or , as I refer to them, chants, have NOTHING whatever to do with Salvation. How in the world can worshipping some statue, and droning on with those chants save your soul ? I mean, just think about it. If you truly have questions about all that, and you voice that to people who have already been brainwashed, don't pay any attention to their criticism. It's your soul we are discussing here, so you should take a lot of time questioning every aspect of it, after all, you don't buy a " pig in a poke ", you check things out. Here's the test. If there are some things the ones trying to indoctrinate you will not answer, ask them why they won't answer. In Christianity, everything is spelled out in plain English for you to read, and freely, of your own will, you can either accept it as the Inspired Word of God, or reject it. The choice is yours. True Salvation is all about a Person, Jesus Christ, who is God's Son, who came to die on a cross for YOUR sins & mine. If you accept Him as your Saviour, repent of yoursins & live for Him, you receive salvation. If you reject the Son of God, you will go to Hell when you die, for an eternity, with your memory, so will remember for an eternity the opportunity you are NOW being afforded to accept Him, and didn't. In Heaven, you will be walking on streets paved with gold and enjoying the presence of the Lord, up close and personal, for an eternity. This is Salvation. Reaching out to receive the gift of eternal life provided by the shedding of Jesus' blood for YOU & I.

Some Hindu basher has mislead you-or you are not favourably disposed to Hinduism.A person who can write such a long question can easily recite "RAAMA-RAAMA-RAAMA-That alone will give Salvation.Only Hinduism alone is having this facility."Sri Raama,Raama,Raama ithi,Rame Raame Manorame-Sahasra Naama Tat Thulyam Raama Naama Varaanane"=If you recite Raama,Raama,Raama- 3 times, it is equal to reciting 1000 different names of Lord Almighty.(Vishnu Sahasranaamam)
