Kerry has as much right to the 8 car as any Earnhardt. Unfortunately, he needs more seat time. He has raced in the Cup, Busch and Truck series for Childress but still seems to need the learning that Jr got from his father. You have to remember that Kerry didn't get to know his dad until after he was 18 while Jr was around his dad a lot longer.

Putting Kerry Earnhardt in the number eight would be a huge step in the wrong direction. DEI needs a proven winner to take over after Jr. leaves. Kerry has been around a long time but lacks the talent and skill to compete in Cup. If he could handle a cup ride he would have gotten one already.

Kerry is a decent driver that deserves a break but don't look for him in the 8 car.
All sorts of rumors have been circulating from Mike Wallace to Dave Blaney to Bill Lester to Kasey Kahne. So until the dust settles and the announcement by Junior just play the rumors.

Kerry can barely drive a car as it is. Montoya would take over the 8 but that has already been decided. and don't forget Teresa's last name is earnhardt so Jr. isn't the only one with the last name.

I think it would be a step in the wrong direction also, but, Kerry never really has had good equipment. Although it would be interesting, but they need to put him in a Busch car first to see how he does, that is a proven championship car.

I don't think anyone will drive the #8 for a few years....the main car will be the #1 of Truex

srjrfan, Kerry has been put into RCR cars before and ended up attempting some remodeling of the walls. So yea he has had good cars, just no talent.

Are ya'll forgetting that Truex is leaving too.
There will be 2 available rides in DEI.
The #8 and the #1
Kerry is not a racer, he would do better sitting up in the pit box charting laps.

There's always Kerry's kid Jeffrey, but he's only 17(I think) in their development division driving Busch East I think.

I wouldn't mind seeing Kerry get a little of his due. His father loved him too.
