It justifies their intolerance of people who don't believe the same things they do or live their lives the same way they do. It also makes them hypocrites.

Nope... VD is a result of someones irresponsible behaviour, God played no part in it. Pregnancies? Life is a gift and blessing, so punishment? No.... Birth control? A smart choice for sexually active people not wanting to get pregnant... is it bad? Heck no.. it prevents the pregnancy from even starting, so you're not "killing" anything, you're protecting yourself.
I think I am less conservative than most. I am a realist.
Hope this helps!

STDs are a result of the curse on creation. This is a result of sin. Whether it's punishment for anyone's personal sin, I couldn't say. I suppose for some it may be, for others, it's just the way it happened. I wouldn't ever say it's someone's punishment, it's just a result of the curse. However, I know that obedience to God and keeping sex within marriage will go a long way to avoiding those problems.

I think we could all learn a lesson, from the battle between Moses, and Pharaoh. The Pharoah claimed authority, and power over the elements, and the world. He tried to make himself, as a god. Moses, proclaimed the power of God, and presented himself as a messenger, not a power.
Whenever tragedy occurs, we have to deal with it. If we accept it as God's Will, our lives will be better. This not an excuse to curse others. It is an oppportunity to live a better life.

I do not think it is God's punishment. Perhaps it is from someone not taking good enough care to avoid getting pregnant or an STD.
If you are ready to have sex, then you should be ready for the consequences.

Well many do yes. But don't condemn all christians for the beliefs of some. I'm atheist by the way.
The person who said "yes on the STDs" should think more carefully. What about babies who are born with STDs because the mother had them? Does a baby born with AIDS deserve it? If your answer to this is yes I don't want to know about it.

Yes on the STD's.
All babies are a blessing from God.
I do not want anyone to be punished, on the contrary.
Pre- marital sex is a sin.
Sex outside of Marriage (Holy Matrimony) is sin.
Sin is Sin to God.
One being just as bad as another, this is why it is said that to break one of God's commandments is to break them all.

Not only from examples found in the Bible but also in life, people know that every choice made can, will, and does have consequences.
I am a Christian and I do not rejoice or feel smug when someone Christian or not makes bad choices and suffers for them.

It is not God's punishment. It is your punishment for your sin or the sin inherited from ancestors.
The Bible, God's Word, says "a curse (STD) without a cause (SIN) does not come." Proverbs 26:2
God has told us from the very beginning what happens when we sin. Man chooses to sin and disobey God. You can blame everything on God if you want, but man chooses his curses or man inherits his curses from sinning ancestors.

Most likely conservative christians feel that the people involved were too dumb to have used a condom and deserve what they get.

the Bible says that when you have sex outside of marriage (fornication) that it is a sin against God.... but also against your own body....the Std is probably your punishment thats against your own body....God's punishment, ultimately comes later & will be much more harsh & eternal.....
**** I personally had a unwanted pregnancy, living a life of fornication (before I chose to start following Christ)and my child, now 9, is who the Lord used to draw me closer to Him.....the Bible says that He (God) will turn bad into good for those who love Him & are called for His purpose.....I see that in my life....
