Hammurabi wrote the 10 commandments 500 years before Moses was born. The religious types give Moses credit?

Does not make sense. Could it be because Moses was written about first and Hammurabi was discovered later and now they don't won't to back up on the issue? And now they call it Hammurabi's Code. That stinks but it is so typical of religions to change stuff around to suit their BS stories.

In my experience, Jews are quite aware of the code of Hammurabi and its significance. Some ultra-orthodox say that Hammurabi got it from the Noachide laws. Other scholar talk about Judaism's improvements on the harshness of the code, especially as we get into the rabbinic period and the Mishnah.

It all developed in conversation. The region's cultures were tightly packed geographically, moved around a lot and invaded each other regularly. Hammurabi wrote them down, but the laws were part of broader ways of living together.

Hammurabi wrote a code of ethics, not the 10 commandments. Every culture that comes around developes a code of ethics that the people must follow, and since these ethics are usually based on both not causing harm to other people and obediance to whatever figurehead of authority there is, whether it's a king, god or both, they all end up pretty similar and with common concepts like "don't steal," "Don't kill," "don't do your neighbor's wife," "honor the king/god above all others..." you get the point.

I don't see anywhere where there are people giving Hammurabi credit for writting the 10 commandments nor anywhere people give Moses credit for Hammurabi's code. It's 2 completly diffent, though similar documents. Hammurabi's code has 280+ laws based on the well being of the populace and maintaining civil order. The 10 commandments has 10 laws based on the well being of the populace and maintaining religous order.

As a side note, religous texts don't say Moses came up with the 10 commandments. They say God did, Moses just transcribed.

No, first of all the Israelites were following those laws already, and those laws far precede Egypt, they are directly from the Sumerians. Now think about Abraham, the founder of Judaism. He was a Sumerian. Lived in Ur of the Chaldees, which was in lower Mesopotamia, which was Sumer. Upper Mesopotamia was Babylon. The laws came out of Sumer, the very first known civilization, and spread from there to Babylon, to Egypt, etc. Abraham's family name has been found all over the area, from Sumer to Babylon and beyond, indicating that his family was very powerful, very wealthy, and probably had a tradition of being Sumerian priests. Jewish tradition teaches that these laws were being followed already by the Israelites long before they were written down at Mt. Sinai through Moses. And this would be because Abraham had long ago brought them out from and passed down those laws.

Where do you get 10 commandments from 282 laws (None of which are in the form "You shall not...")?

Sure, there are definite similarities between the Hammurabi Code and the Mosaic Law, but that's a whole 'nother thing from the 10 commandments.

hammurabi reigned form 1795 - 1750 BC.....his code was not the same as the mosaic law

true .moses came after hammurabi.....in about 1445 BC...

but the jews never entered into babylonian captivity ( the first time) until 597 BC...by that time, the jews already had their 10 commandments for about 1000 years....

God is God and can do anything-even manifest himself in the form of a man-as promised-Isaiah 53 "He will be rejected and lay down his life to make atonment for our sins."

His salvation his death redemption for us-while saying Jesus was without sin born from a virgin to live pure and die for our sins
