LMAO I know what you are saying about the reputation Dobermans have at times. Both what you said about Dobies attacking their owners & their skulls putting pressure on their brains just cracks me up!! I have had a total of six full grown Dobermans in my home at one time & I never feared for my life!! A lot of other people did though. Four of those Dobies were mine, one my daughter's & the other a friend mine. Back in the 70's they really got a bad rap just as the Pitts do now a days!!

I don't see a question, but I do have some comments.

Actually some dogs do kill their owners or family members of the owner. It's rare for any dog to kill anyone, but it is not unheard of for dogs to kill family members. This is more likely among dogs who are kept on chains or in kennels, who are banished after the birth of a child, who are trained with harsh methods, who are abused or neglected, or who are allowed to roam in packs.

But Dobermans, Rotties, and Chows, dogs often blamed for unreasonable aggressiveness, are not necessarily the most aggressive of dogs. Each of these breeds can be sweet, gentle family dogs- as can pit bulls, Akitas, etc.

German Shepherds and Golden retrievers also injure and kill. Pomeranians and dachsunds have killed children. Cocker spaniels have been implicated in a number of attacks.

One reason some breeds get bad reputations is that they are big and strong and a bite can do serious damage, while a bite from a Pomeranian, while unpleasant, is less likely to kill anyone older than infancy. That doesn't mean Poms are less capable of aggression, it just means they are less capable of inflicting serious harm.

I know someone who allowed her 5 year old boy to constantly torture her Doberman day in and day out without correction. He took it for a long time before he had enough and nipped the child. I would not have taken it as long as that. He did not do it as an attack, or ferociously, but more a self-preservation warning. Unfortunately it broke the skin so the dog got a bad rep and it really wasn't his fault. It was the fault of the parent who refused to correct the child and protect the dog. Mmm

What is your question?

In my experience, problems with dobermans are nearly always related to the owner. In generaly, they are pretty friendly dogs. It is also my experience that once they are aggressive, they remain aggressive and no amount of training will change that. They have to be presumed to be dangerous and treated as such (once they are aggressive). However, this seems to be true of many dogs. My sister's sheltie, came from the pound, is aggressive towards strangers and particularly men, although she's perfectly behaved on a leash. We just keep her in a room when there are visitors. Just not worth the chance.

In my town in Texas they are getting really strict on Pit Bulls. As a matter of fact it's against the law now to have them tied up at all. They must be in a pen. Maybe dogs are getting wilder the same as children not minding these days. It's all in how they are raised.

I work in a vet office, and I've NEVER seen a mean Dob Pin. Most of them are babies and scared to death, or sweet as can be. It's all about how they are raised. If they're raised wrong, they can be extremely vicious, but so can a chihuahua!! it's never the animals fault if they become vicious-it's the owner!!!

Gets tricky with the pitts- a lot of 'other breeds' are often mis-indentified as pitts- some people call nay blocky solid large dog a 'pitt', so it's hard to say how actually valid those #s are.
