The question - Do you think it's okay for a straight guy to wear black lycra spandex shorts when working out at the gym?

Me, I'm married, 30 years old, 6'5", 235 lbs, and stay in real good shape. Not white trash- no mullets or anything. I shave my head.

I often wear plain black lycra shorts (the softer material) with a normal length neutral colored t-shirt. I know extremely long and baggy shorts are very popular in many places, but I can't stand the way they feel or look.

So, at the gym, do you like lycra spandex shorts on an in-shape guy or hate it? Are you neutral about it?

Just for curiosity, please include what state you're from.

Thanks!

By neutral colored t-shirts/sweat shirts I mean black, gray, white, olive green, brown, etc...nothing flashy.

Those shorts are a little TMI for me. If you like the way they hold everything in, you could put some looser shorts over them, so you won't gross everyone out. I live in Idaho, and most men don't wear that kind of thing to the gym, but biking is very big here, and men wear lycra biking shorts all the time.

You are working out who cares what you look like. Especially if you are married you don't need to impress anyone, wear what is comfortable and hey you wife might like how you look in tight shorts.

lol. the way i see it, you obviously have some insecurities about it, otherwise you wouldn't be asking? truthfully, i wear whatever is clean to the gym :) i prefer tight fitting clothes for aerobic classes b/c baggy clothes get in my way. but for men, i see a bit of everything. my kickboxing trainer was about your size, he wore everything. i think when he wore the biker looking outfits he looked like a "trainer"...or someone who is a die heard exerciser. people stared at him because he looked serious about working out, and yeah, i think he got more attention in his tight shorts :) honestly, people are just looking at your butt and Johnson in those things (men and women)...if you don't have it showing (b/c you wear a t-shirt), then there is really nothing to be intrigued or care about.

i personally don't care...but I will say that people look. that's honest.

California - Bay Area.

Honestly - no lycra shorts (please). You don't have to wear anything long - just something that fits nicely at the waist and drapes off if you are in great shape. I think Under Armour makes what you are looking for. If I were you I would ask your wife what she thinks... I wouldn't let my husband wear them and he is incredible!

Just trying to help! :)

I wouldn't care tbh. As long as the guy felt comfortable wearing them, and his body language shows that he was, I would be fine with it. Otherwise I'd be like "Well why's that guy acting all weird in his spandex...."... if that makes sense

let me say this and i will end with this for the night. i hate football. its dumb, boring and makes no sense to me. BUT THE BEST thing they did for the sport was putting the guys in those pants. now at the gym--i think i would enjoy seeing that. guys like seeing girls work out in spandex so why not. as long as the fat dont act like jello and it aint falling out of the shorts--go for it.

Good lord, wear what works.

Are you there to make a fashion statement or get your workout done?

I prefer spandex because I find baggy shorts annoying. I coudn't really tell you what everybody else is doing because I don't pay any attention.
