depending on type of green
1) Old stop lights had no amber and went from green to red
2) green arrow turns can still go direct to red
3) normal three light sequence goes green to amber to red
4) Normally what happens regardless of light sequencing is that traffic slows down and stops, accept for the idiot who guns the gas and blows a red light.

Well, really it depends on which state you are in. When there is someone in front of you and the light is Red and then turns Green, some people are trying to decide if there is another shade of green, as people behind them are laying on the horn and yelling.
