Okay guys, my cat is such a dork. He has a little problem. When I let him in the house he likes to run back to the bathroom and play in the toliet. Then he leaves his muddy paw prints all over the seat and the floor. Tupac is just a mess! (tupac isn't his real name, its a nickname) Now with our new kitten P.J. I'm afraid he will pick up the same habit! Any suggestions on how to break the habit? HELP!

P.S. Leaving the lid down doesn't help, he still gets his paws in there!

Just let him do it..Sounds like he enjoys the water, as long as you don't put any chemicals in your toilet it wont hurt him..It may be a bit messy so just keep a towel nearby to wipe off the "footprints". I think it's hilarious and ads personality to your cat..I wish mine would play in the toilet water, he sits and screams till you run water in the tub for him..lol..

My cat used to love this! He drank out of the toilet and played with the water. I had to keep the bathroom door shut all the time in order to keep him out of there, but he would just cry and cry at the door, pushing his paws underneath, etc.

Why don't you get one of the baby-proofers for the toilet? It's a clip that goes on the seat and when you put the lid down, it clips into place. Easy for an adult to lift the lid up, but a cat wouldn't be able to do it.

Have you ever considered that Tupac may like to play in water? I have a cat who loves to take a bath with me. Sometimes cats like to get into the toilet because the water is fresh (provided you flush...lol) and cold and it tastes good. Your new kitten may pick up the habit, who knows.... here's an idea...... you can keep your bathroom door shut?!

Spray him with a water bottle anytime he does something you don't want him to do. The older he is and the longer he's been doing it the harder it'll be to break the habit, but it's still possible. The new kitten can be trained easily using this method. If water doesn't work, add a little vinegar to the bottle.

Maybe you could put him a small pool outside or large shallow pan. It sounds to me like he wants to bath himself and the only water that he finds is in the toilet. Mine will get in the sink when I turn the water on and wash their paws. I am sure that is what he is doing. I sure hope that you do not put chemicals in the toilet. If you do they could make him sick.

My cat does the SAME thing. Just let him play in the water because really all he's doing is drinking the water. If you do not want him in your toilet (meanie. hehe) then get a bucket of water and put a toilet seat on it. haha. good luck.

Sounds like your cat has OCD. Poor thing. Keep the bathroom door closed when he is to come in and see how he reacts. If he still seeks water to "wash his hands" then you might try "wiping" them for him on a rug until he is use to wiping them on a rug after coming in, the rug that is just for him.

well whenever you catch him in the act, a quick spank on the bum can do the trick. By the third or fourth spank, he'll realize that he's doing something naughty and furthermore, cats don't like to be spanked so he would wanna prevent another spanking and won't do the toilet thing again.
