Yes its true PrideFC really is dead! On March 27th when they announced that UFC was buying PrideFC there was no paperwork signed and the Japanese promotion refused to open up their financial books until the sale was complete. Everything was finalized on May 24th and since then it has become more than clear the DSE dug themselves a whole even the UFC can't dig them out of, without a Japanese TV deal it just isn't possible for PrideFC to survive and that is unlikely for an american owned promotion. So the ranks of PrideFC will be stripped and split up between the UFC and WEC. Many Pride fighters have already signed with the UFC and even Paulo Filho has signed with the WEC (which makes is TV premier tonight on the VERSUS network).

Its really sad because I enjoyed the Champion environment that filled the the PrideFC events far more than the professional wrestling style shows they put on in the UFC. Even the lesser fighters fought so hard in Pride shows because their honor was on the line and when they lost the crowd applauded them for their warrior spirit, not like in the UFC where even the winner gets booed (although in some cases they deserve it like Sylvia and Koscheck).

Pride is not really gone, but is now owned by the UFC. I would assume that the venues will simply not be called "Pride" anymore, and will simply become UFC events.
We will see the same fighters, paired with UFC fighters, and I think this is a good thing. Let the best of the best rise to the surface and we will all know who truly are the finest MMA fighters on earth. Bring it on!
