Greyhounds are practically the least popular dog breed. All these people want puppies or poodles(yuck), that are high maintnance and hyper. I hate people who think greyhounds are like that. They don't even need to run everyday. Mine is perfectly happy sleeping and going for walks now and then, and she is so sweet, and has bever bitten anyone. It really bothers me that so few people have a greyhound. In my opinion, they are by far the easiest and sweetest and gentlest and best with childrenist dogs to adopt. And if you don't adopt them, they will die.

My greyhound is a retired racer. We got her when she was two. She is skittish, but she is the sweetest thing and you can do anything to her(little kids play with her sometimes)

I think people think the greyhound is odd looking. It is muscular, unlike the obese loabs and other common dogs. Greyhounds are beautiful. I'm petting mine right now.

Don't worry! Greyhounds are more popular than you may realize. My group does a rescue event every month, and the Greyhound rescue group gets such a lot of attention. They are the most elegant creatures. I have seen many adoptions done by their group. And all of the dogs they bring are perfectly well-behaved, even with a bunch of strangers poking at them. I always make it a point to go hug a greyhound when i do the show, because they give you such a feeling of peace. You have picked a wonderful breed to share your home!

"Dog people" don't have anything against greyhounds. But take a look at the questions here and see if there's too many people on here who know there's more breeds out there than pit bulls, chihuahuas, poodles or labs. I've always been impressed when I walk my 3 greys around the neighborhood, how many people, including young kids, know what they are, know about rescuing greyhounds and even know they make wonderful pets.

I for one am really glad that sighthounds aren't among the more popular dogs out there. Most of the people owned by sighthounds have some common sense, know how to train a dog without all the hype about who's the alpha. When any breed gets too popular the first thing to deteriorate is temperament, I'd hate to see that happen to the sight hounds - all of them are amazing dogs and I would like to see them stay that way.

Yes I know! What is with people? I have been with a greyhound and he was the sweetest thing! Big brown eyes, and he loved to snooze... In my opinion, most people think it's a racing dog and shouldn't be owned, or they don't like the way the greyhound looks. Because this dog is trained to run, the build of the body is different. Greyhounds are popular, but they just don't show up in public as much as Golden Retrievers or say the Husky. I love them and they are sweet, but I would prefer a stouter dog. They are too thin for my liking. But, they still have a plushy toy personality.

Best of luck to you and your doggy!

I think some people want the fruu fruu dogs that they see the celebrities with or like puppies.
Greyhounds are wonderful dogs and need homes too.

Recently in Massachusetts they were working to outlaw greyhound racing and a lot of people showed up at our state house with the pet greyhounds looking very snazzy in their coats.

Don't people know that the egyptians revered these dogs??

The first knowledge of the Greyhound comes from the Tomb of Amten, in the Valley of the Nile, regarded by Egyptologists as belonging to the fourth dynasty, which in modern chronology would be between 2900 and 2751 B.C.

I have 2 miniature greyhounds. They are the best dogs ever. I absolutely hate poodles and dogs similar to them. All people that say they have greyhounds say that they are couch potatoes. My aunt had a full size greyhound that was an ex racer she was so cool and nice. I think the reason that most people do not have greyhounds is that they are expensive and it is hard to find that type of dog.

I'm not sure why, but dogs in the general class of sighthound
(greyhounds, salukis, Afghan hounds, whippets etc.) don't seem to be all that popular as pets. I don't know if some people dislike the sharp angular bodies, or the fact that they are very visually attracted by prey and often distracted by this.
I believe as you, that their are many wonderful greyhounds, just as any other breed.

I think it's not so much that people think they need too much exercise (anyone who's ever met one knows how mellow they are!) so much as mostly, people think they're ugly. I don't, you don't, lots of people don't, but a lot of people do, and they want a dog for looks more than personality, unfortunately.

The good news is that a lot of people who adopt greyhounds can't get enough of them and keep adopting! One elderly woman in my neighborhood has FOUR and she walks them all at the same time three times a day! They are so well behaved and mellow I smile every time I see her out with them!

Just not for me I like rugged dogs.

i don't have any problem with greyhounds, but people think hat they are just used as training, racing and things like that... because they are not playful and cheerful like other dogs are... bet they still are cheerful and playful...

also, if they are trained for it, greyhounds used to be used to protect property by attacking tresspassers... i don't know if you watch the simsons, but one of the people has q whole load of greyhounds that chase and attack anyone who tresspasses on his domain

and i agree... poodles ((yuck!))

i have never heard or met anyone who has anything against greyhounds... i will say, however,, that yahoo answers seems to be a place where backyard breeders congregate and the majority of people here seem to think that poodle mutts, JRT's, dachshunds, maltese , shih tzu, labs and pits are the only breeds around.
