If you know you are going to have a heavy meal, have some bitters beforehand - eg Swedish Bitters, gentian, fumitory, or bitter foods like grapefruit, rocket, endive. This will set up your digestive system so it is ready to go into action when the food hits your stomach.

If you've eaten a heavy meal, and weren't prepared for it, the same things can work quite quickly,or you can take some fennel seeds (or tea), peppermint, or ginger.

I make up a little bottle of gentian and ginger tinctures, and take about ten drops. Tastes very bitter, but works well.

How To Digest Food Faster

I have the same problem. I don't know the answer yet either, but I wanted to let you know you're not the only person who has this issue! I've found that eating very regularly throughout the day, never allowing myself to get too hungry, helps me need less to eat right before bed. Drinking a couple glasses of water before bed is also somewhat helpful. Liquid vitamins have made a bit of difference, but nothing has worked well enough to solve the problem entirely. If you find a solution, will you please email me and let me know what worked? Good luck to you!

A moderate walk might help but do not run. Digestion is regulated by certain hormones and they will slow or even stop digestion when you are under stress or under heavy exertion.

There is no natural way to speed up digestion. You can speed up your metabolism by going for a walk or other mild exercise. What you don't want to do is take a nap. Even though that's what we all want to do after a large meal. I would say after a large meal drink a cup of coffee or tea (which will also speed up you metabolism) and get outside.

Take a piece of ginger and crush and take the juice out of that. Mix with little sugar. Drink it. You will belch and will have beautiful digestion.

This is an old Indian preparation. It is used in AYURVEDA also.

Run or walk around the block. The wakling help to "move" the food alon faster. Now, if you're doing this because you want to lose weight from the meal, it won't make you lose any weight, it'll just help with your digestion.
