I was eating a chip and it sliced open the gum behind one of my molars two or three days ago, and my gum has been swollen ever since. You can hardly see my tooth because the gum is so swollen around it. When will it go down? And is there a chance it could get infected? What will happen if it's infected?

Im on the phone with a dental assistant right now, and she says to rinse with warm salt water, 2 times per day, for from the time it started 7 days, if it is still bad go to the dentist, it you may need antibiotics, if its bad. But give it a few days mouth tissues are sensitive.
