Try freeing up some memory. Vista is unstable at the moment so I don't suggest people use it.

Lets do a little checking to see how much ram is being used. Hit Ctrl, Alt, Del at the same time and then choose "Start Task Manager". In the Windows Task Manager dialog window, click the "Performance" tab. If the "Memory" usage is anywhere near the total amount of ram that is installed in your system, then when the computer attempts to do anything it is going to be forced into "swap filling", or "virtual" memory. This is a situation were Windows uses part of the hard drive as memory.

Now let see what is using up all of your memory. Click Start, All Programs, Accessories, and open the "Run" command. In Run, type "msconfig" without the quotes and click ok. This will open the Micorsoft Configuration Utility, now click "Startup". In this utility you will see everything that is loading (booting) with Windows. You should know that if something loads with windows, it will then be running in the background and using up ram. There are a couple of things that need to run, such as, your anti virus software and your firewall. But the rest of the stuff can be shut down. If you make a mistake and turn off something that you would rather have loading at startup you can always come back to this utility and turn it back on.

Last, Vista is ram hungry. Microsoft suggests that you have at least a gig, I think 2 gigs is better. I run two Vista Home Priemum in two system, both have 2 gigs of ram, and I have all of the bells and whistles turned on, and both systems simply fly.

Good luck, and hope that this helps.
