First, you might want to familiarize yourself with your city's self defense laws. If these punks only attack you and push you around but you in turn use more force against them than they do against you, you become the aggressor and you would be the one who ends up getting fingerprinted. I know you say the cops are awful, but bullies like the kind that have been pushing you around are usually the loudest cryers and the quickest to call the cops and sue you. Watch your step -- and smart choice that you don't want to bring weapons into this.

I agree that Krav Maga might be the best and quickest way to train yourself. No traditional belt rankings or other Asian etiquette, simple straight self defense. You can see if there is a school near you by checking out:

And if you don't want to get into that, you can buy a poster of striking zones on the human body here:

Physical violence should a last resort for a civilized person.
If you fear being physically attacked by multiple attackers then you should be training daily. At least to conquer your own inner-demons.
In the mean time, buy 2 can of pepper spray and target practice with one can (ask someone to spray you while you have a bucket of water on hand so you know the effects). The next time you are attacked by a group try to escape first (escape is always the best solution). If escape is not an option than defend your self with the fury of an animal. Never let any of them get behind you even if you have to back into something. The single enemy that attacks first is the alpha, if you knock him down the rest are likely to retract in fear. Hit him with a big spray of pepper juice right in the eyes then try to escape again. If another attacker comes forward do the same thing.
If it turns physical protect your head, aim for the groin, eyes or throat. Really you need to train formally if you wish to handle multiple attackers.

Well the small frame autos you mentioned would be much easier to carry/conceal, and all calibers mentioned would easily do the job in a self defense situation. Plus you have a much higher magazine capacity with the autos (15-20 depending on make/caliber) as opposed to your 6 shot revolvers. In addition, a .40 Glock will have less recoil than a .44 mag shooting full loads, which puts you back on target much quicker for a second shot. Keep in mind though, double-stack .45s such as those produced by Glock have an extremely wide grip, which may be uncomfortable if you have small hands. BUT if you are confident and comfortable using your revolvers, then use one of those. At the end of the day, it all comes down to personal preference and you should use what ever works best for YOU

more than one attacker is tough. Often the best strategy is to limit the numbers that can attack you. Make it so that they can only come at you one at a time. If they always use group tactics, it definitely means they are afraid of one on one combat.

Also, nobody uses a push to start a fight unless they are complete noobs to fighting. A push can be avoided or turned against you by getting under it and delivering blows to the gut or neck.

If you don't have good martial arts skills, go for the groin, jaw, nose, neck, and stomach. However, it is important to keep your arms and legs close to you at all times. If you extend your limbs too far/long, they can be up for grabs.

Keep moving around and don't rely on blocking an attack. Try and sidestep their attacks and deliver a sweet one to their unprotected areas. Also, if you reall really need to, you can grab pieces of their skin and rip (don't recommend it -ooh ugly images).

If you want some good ways to attack really fast, I'd reccomend taking a capoeira class. They don't have a million kattas youy need to memorize. You can watch capoeira videos on youy tube to see how these people can attack. Be warned that the moves are not just for show, each of them hurts. Good you tube vids will have bahia, batuque, or mestre (master), or batizad in the name or description.
Another good one was called capoeira prodigy.

Above all, train train train.

Start working out.
If you have enough power, you would be able to knock them out even with a jab. Just punch the guy in the face before he pushes you. Once you know that the guy is going into just push you, just step in and punch him before he is able to push you. Jab or a hook, whatever. It's going to hurt either way.
Remember, the first move you make is very important.

Or you can just take a step or two back when he comes in for a push. From the sound of it, you fought a complete amateur.
I'm sure that guy's going to lose balance after that(then just step back in and attack him). Or maybe you can just simply take up some martial arts classes.

First, do a daily meditation. Even for a 5 min. will help you keep your mind focused. Then after a while it will become automatic. Find a quiet private place and close your eyes. Breathe in from nose slowly count 5 seconds, hold the air in the belly it for 3 seconds, breathe out from the mouth slow count 5 seconds. DO it again and again. You can just do the breathing part anywhere anytime. Concentrate on the breathing no matter how destructive you may get during meditation. NEXT, think of the direction of the force coming at you. If he pushes you straight you move side or around without touching him. This will open him up. Strike his side of the neck just under the jaw as hard as you can with edge of your hand. This will knock out anyone cold without causing a serious injury. Then, just walk away. If he bothers you to a point of really a life threatening way, go for a weak spot such as eyes, nose, ears, throat, pull his hair, knee joint, do not go for face or growing, that is to be expected and if you miss, you may just piss him off more. The best is go for the knee joint. Kick with your side of foot as hard as you can. Practice this while you are at home. Warning, these technique will cause a serious injury.

Training is the really the only way to not get slammed every time you come in contact with these people. If you are unwilling to train then what ever you do will just be out of reaction and have no idea what you are doing. If you are always getting pushed first and you are willing to train then I would recommend Hapkido or Combat Hapkido. You would learn to use your opponents force against him. But if you are not willing to train then you better get a good pair of running shoes.

First of all don't think of it as Self Defense, think of it as Self Offense. If you are always in a defensive posture you are at a disadvantage. Remember that action is faster than reaction, so defense is always slower than offense.
You are dealing with a pack of cowards, they need 3 of them to take you on. There is also likely a "pack leader" I am sure you know which one I mean.
Ok, if you can find the pack leader by himself I would wait for him and beat the bejeezus out of him. Tell him that if he and his friends ever piss you off again he is the one who will pay, and you will track him to the depths of hell.
If you are facing all 3 then simply assess your possibilities. Can you make a quick escape if needed? Remember they will all pounce on you at once if they can, such are cowards.
If you have to fight them go after the pack leader and hit him on the tip of the chin, this should stagger him. Maneuver around him to use his own body as your shield, while continuing to do him damage that will weaken him, such as raking his eyes, smashing his nose, kicking him to the inner part of the thigh. Remember that he is their hero, and if you hurt him they are weakened in resolve.
Do not be afraid in this situation to also gain a weapon of accessability to use against them. A board, brick, ect. If you attain such a weapon go after them with furiosity.
On knockout blows, as I mentioned earlier, a shot to the tip of the chin (the button) can knock someone out, but there is another way that most people do not know, and that is a hard hit to the side of the neck. A nerve in this area is a sure fire way to knockout if struck with force. Use the hard part of your forearm like a lead pipe to strike.
Weakening blows: Solar plexus (stomache just below the sternum), the center of the sternum, the floating ribs (the lowest of the ribs), nose (palm strike upwards), the ears (hard cupped palmstrike to effect equalibrium), groin, inner thigh (there is a nerve here that will make them fall), foot stomp (can break a foot and remove mobility, also good if grabbed from behind).
Also if you can grab the head bozo, and stun him, grab a couple of his fingers and drive him down by wrenching them in the opposite direction that they are supposed to go, and throw him in front of an advancing foe.
Remember that they feel empowered by numbers. If you can track them down individually and beat them up, you are much better off. Also if you succeed, berate them by saying that without their friends they are all *******.

Good luck!

Sorry man, no shortcuts. You go and you train and if you sweat and bleed and hurt enough, eventually you get good enough to fight someone. Then you STILL get mudstomped by a gang 9 times out of ten.

Sorry there's no magic answer for you, but all this insane technique advice people are giving you is just going to make someone really mad. If they are WILLING to beat you down, then you are getting beaten down. If they aren't, then MAYBE you can scare them off by dropping one guy, but most of the vids I've seen show that the friends just get mad that you dropped their mate and go harder.

If you give a good accounting of yourself they may go look for easier prey, and you can affect THAT by going and training. Plus, every hour you are training is an hour you are not out on the street being accosted.

No easy answer when you are attacked by more than one. If you aren't willing to train, then you will probably get beat down. Two thoughts however, a smash to the nose, breaking it, will slow down most attackers, also the knee will go from any angle that it is hit. Outside of that, unless you take a few classes, in some type of martial arts, buy a lot of band aids.
