Not long ago, my family dog sat for a friend. The mini bull terrier, Gizmo, displayed the same symptoms as your baby boy. We took Gizmo to the vet and found that she had worms. The vet started her on medication (tablets) immediately and she started showing signs of improvement within 36 hours. Gizmo was completely cured in 10 days. I asked the doctor how she could have gotten this. He said that it could have been anything from drinking water from a puddle or sniffing / licking the grass to eating poop (as dogs will sometimes do). Don't worry. Just get him to the vet.

Your dog could have a blockage of some sort that is only allowing the runny stuff to exit. So in a way he CAN appear to be constipated and have diarhea at the same time.
Since he is shaking he does really need to see a vet immediately as this is a sign of shock. Don't hesitate and ask the vet to check for a blockage. Some blockages are caused by chew toys, greenies and other like treats, or foriegn objects like socks, ropes, other toys...
A blockage is an emergency and can cause intestinal damage requiring surgery to remove dead or dying parts of the intestine. You can't let this go on any longer. Please find an E vet and go today.
DO NOT follow the advice of the vet tech who just stated that you can give this dog pepto or immodium. Diarhea is the bodies way of ridding its self of toxins and to slow that process with out knowing what the cause is can be deadly. That was bad advice!

You have to go to the VET for this problem. He may have worms and he will be given medication. A little boiled rice will stop the diarrhea. If has diarrhea he can't be constipated too. Be sure he drinks a lot of water so he does not de-hydrate. I feel bad that the dog is upset. He does not understand why he can't come into the house. Keep him in the kitchen (use a gate to block him from getting into the other rooms). Most importantly - bring him to the VET.

Your dog cant be constipated and have the runs at the same time. It sounds like he has worms and is very sick from them. Get him into the vets as soon as possible. For now give him lots of freash water to drink and dont feed him until tonight. Then only some cooked rice with maybe a bit of boiled chicken in it.
Please he really need a vets care now!

How Long has he had the diarrhea? Diarrhea could mean several different things. So lately have you switched his diet with out mixing the old one for a few days? Has he had something to eat that he is not used to? Are there any new changes or stress in YOUR life? If none of theses things have happened he may need to have a stool sample checked by a vet to see if there are any worms in it!!
You may try to give him pepto tabs or imodium tabs and you can repeat that dose 2 times in 24 hours. For him it would be a childs dose!!
As far as being constipated that he probably is not!! It may feel to him that he needs to keep going but really does not. WIth the scooting he is trying to empty his anal glands. That is a normal thing!

Go to the vet ASAP! Fill the vet in on everything you fed him and how long this has been happening and anything else they ask for. My Mini Schnauzer had the same experience. His cause was he got into the trash and had eaten to many treats. Talk to your dog and stroke him. And get hime to the vet!

Okay your poor little dog has ate something that isn't agreeing. Take him to the vet and get him checked for worms. B/c sometimes worms will upset their little systems and it's nothing you did it just happens. My little winnie dog eats everything in sight and gets his tummy upset alot too but I've learned to offer healthy treats so he won't nibble on everything.
