I have a cat that is about 8 months old she is spayed she receives love and attention and even has another cat to play with. But she won't let me sleep! I work nights and dont get to bed until about 2am and she wakes me up like clockwork at about 6am everyday. She will stand at my bedroom door and meow loudly until I get up. She isn't sick she's been doing this since she was 2 months old. I've tried everything. I will spray her with a squirt bottle, i've placed my shoes outside my door because she doesn't like shoes, I get up and hold her and pet her and go to sleep on the couch and as soon as I close my eyes she's meowing again. Please does anyone know a good way to deter this behavior, I think I might have to get rid of her if it doesnt stop because i'm getting sick from not having enough sleep and I dont want to do that I love my cat. The other one I have doesnt do this so its not something she learned.

She also has constant access to food and fresh water so its not like i feed her when I get up so I don't think thats it.

You poor thing! It is terrible to be sleep deprived.
We have an old cat who is very loud and persistent. When he was a kitten, he started meowing so loud at night that he kept us awake. We tried everything. He was only playing. So for the past seventeen years, he and the other cats go to "bed" at night. We call them by telling them it is "night night time" (I know that sounds dumb!) and they come running. Then they run down to the basement where they get a snack and stay in the basement for the night. Everyone is happy. We sleep in our quiet upstairs and they can play all they want.
Of course, if you don't have a basement, this won't work for you.
Whatever you do, do not reward her by giving her any attention. That is probably what she wants. Be sure you keep your door shut. Perhaps you could try turning the TV on for her. Feed her when you go to bed and hide a few morsels around the house to keep her busy.
Good luck and good sleep!

Our cat does the same thing to me. It will let my boyfriend sleep all day long. But as soon as I am in bed alone, it will meow until I get up. We have taken to shutting her in the basement until we get up. Don't think its mean! She has toys to play with and her food and litter box are down there. We even asked our vet and they had no answer for it. We tried sutting the door before that and it did not help. She still stayed outside the door. The basement is the only place she will not meow at me. I hope the suggestion helps.

Why don't you just keep your bedroom door open so she can come in and see you, and maybe she will just cuddle up to you and go to sleep without waking you!
That is what I do with my cats and the only time they will wake me up is if they don't have food or fresh water or their litter box needs cleaning. So make sure they have all that they need before you go to sleep.
Hope this helps

I have the same problem. Pharaoh is still pretty young and has roundabout access to food, water and toys but for some reason, at night, he NEVER leaves me alone. He attacks my feet, fingers and any body part he can get his teeth and claws on and it pisses me off. I just push him off the bed or try to ignore him(if he isn't biting me) and sometimes it works. Playing doesn't really work for him because he is just INSATIABLE. So I just have to let him know, " No. It is bed time. No more playing. Sleep." Your cat will get it eventually just be consistent.

i just wonder... did you ever have a job or anything that you used to wake up at 0600 or before? I know when i changed shifts my cat just thought something was wrong if i wasnt up at the same time... took her forever to learn my new schedule... also, is there maybe something that happens at 0600 that you dont know about? trash people coming by, newspaper person throwing the papers out, noisy buses going by or anything? it might be that something is scaring her.... best thing i can think of is just putting the kitties in a closed off room away from everything (if possible) with their food, water and litter boxes so they cant bug you... but it is true what others have said.. they are just like kids... once they learn that they can get what they want, its hard to retrain them... you would have to ignore her at that time for a few weeks before she would start giving up on the behavior since shes always gotten her way in the past... i wish you well!

Maybe you should leave your bedroom door open so she can come in and sniff you or cuddle you a bit, and then she'll leave.
Or is it out of the question for her to be inside your bedroom?
Maybe you could leave an old shirt that you have worn outside your door and maybe she'll cuddle up on your old shirt and fall asleep (because of your scent)??
Good Luck, hun. let me know how it turns out.

My cat is a extremely sensible cat.... It places its paws on my nostril each and every morning and shall we me recognize that that's morning and that it's time to evoke! If i do no longer flow, this is going to think of that it's time to sleep. otherwise, this is going to think of that it's time to evoke and play. My cat is basically too sensible for me. If I yawn, he would recognize that i'm up and he will make effective that i upward thrust up and make issues take place.

I've had the same problem for years. The best way to handle it - is like the others have said - ignore her. The problem is, just one morning of getting up earlier than normal and you have to start all over again! It does take a week or more to get them trained..... so good luck!

when you sleep you could leave a hand open for her if she needs comfort. if that doesnt work you could get a cage for her and put a towel over it so its nice and dark, make sure the cage is outside your room and also it has to be her desision to go in... you cant force her. you HAVE TO let her out as soon as you wake up though, if you dont she will feel like you dont love her and she will pester you even more. you should give her alot of attention when you are awake though so she feels loved.
I HOPE I HELPED YOU! =]
