OCS is located in Pensacola FL. (We were stationed there and it's also where I had my first son.)

I would not say it's similar to boot camp. It's not a cakewalk, mind you, but it's an interesting place to be. You will be busy.

yes, and no. Great Lakes is run by RDCs. Pensacola is run by Marines.

much of the same phyiscal stuff goes on.. PT, and the like, but the academnic portion is more intense for OCS. there is also a smidgen more freedom in OCS. During Bootcamp, I got exactly 2 phone calls from my husband.. and those were both in the last two weeks. When he was in OCS, I got weekly phone calls, and *gasp* an email or two. THAT was a major plus.

During the last few weeks of OCS, you can actually leave base and go out and have a drink at Maguires. you just have to be in uniform the whole time. You can even drive. can't do either during Boot.. not even on PIR weekend.
