Simply put, after 9/11 several major changes were made, changes that should have been made much earlier by one Bill Clinton, in the way we handle terror investigations, homeland security, and the like. An entire new government entity, the department of homeland security, was created. The most important changes, however, were the Patriot act, and the subsequent law changes that allowed the FBI, CIA, NSA, state and local police, and miltiary intelligence to share information and cooperate. If these things had been done before 9/11, we would have stopped that too.

Same reason we failed to prevent Pearl Harbor. There were MANY opportunities to detect and stop the attack on Pearl Harbor because the Japanese aircraft carriers had to cross half of the Pacific ocean in secrecy, but 9/11 was accomplished by only 20 sneak terrorists.

Our intelligence agencies weren't diligent enough and they weren't working together as a team. This has been the case ever since J. Edgar Hoover in the 1920's, and probably long before that.

You don't really know if they would have worked are not. Right now they are looking hard for any thing that might be an attacks real or not. I know as a youth man after Vietnam. We though things and plan things that were dead wrong, but never went the last step. Thank God. Time make you wiser and more forgiving. Why do you think that bombers are almost always young men? Hormones and rage are at thier peak at ages of 18 - 25. It is easier to get them to die for a cause.

Pretty simple answer actually. The country, the world is on a new sense of alert. Never before have we felt the need to be so pro-active towards terroristic threats. For instance, the man who turned in the "Dix Six" video. That never would have happened pre-9/11. Bush has implemented phone tapping and surveillence (that the liberals hate) that has had extremely positive results. I understand the desire for privacy, but when you're suspected of being a threat to the people of this country, your rights should be put on hold till further notice!

The people in intel couldn't share information because Clinton had a wall built between them. The woman who wrote that was on the 9/11 committee.

We had left over CIA and FBI from Clinton years where they were not allowed to share information. It took 9/11 to open some eyes up to see how vulnerable we were.
