My cat had kittens and a lady that took one found out her son was allergic to it. I would be willing to take it back but I'm not sure if the mother would recognized it as hers. I know every time we touched the kittens the mother would lick the human smell off them. Now that the kitten has been gone 8 days and my friend told me Mommy won't know it's hers because our/her smell is gone. So, I question whether to take it back or not. Has anyone ever run into this situation? I need to make a decision within 24 hours or she is giving it to someone else, understandably.

The 2 yr. old has been around cats before but he was playing too hard and the kitten scratched him and he swelled up. The doctor said he is allergic and they didn't know it. I didn't let the kittens go until they were 8 weeks old, per the vet's instructions. I promised her the kitten before he was born and I got attached to him and wanted to keep him but I gave her my word and wouldn't go back on it. Seems like the humans are happy - hope the same for the animals. LOL

More than likely she will accept it back. You may want to rub a towel on her and then maybe put her in teh bathroom or a seperate room. When you bring the kitten in rub the smeell from the towenl on the kitten giving it the smell of mom. Then let mom out . Watch them mom will probably try to set up authority again. You will need to let this happen.
Good Luck.

I'm not sure why acceptance would be a big issue. I'm hoping the kitten was old enough and that it was weened.

I'm also wondering if the "lady" is just tired of taking care of a kitten and found out how much it actually costs to give it shots, and spay or neuter it. You would think her son would have come around cats and dogs before now. 8 day's seems like a long time to find out your allergic.

As far as the mother cat goes it should just take a little while for her to get used to having the kitten around. If for some reason she is hostile to the kitten for any length of time just keep them separate.

It's better than letting this "lady" take the kitten to a pound.

Add: I did not know that you could get an allergic reaction from a cat scratch. I know there is a possibility of a staff infection or maby another type of infection (Bartonella henselae) but not an allergic reaction.

It's great that at least you found this out from the woman before the kitten got older. It's also good it's not going to end up abandoned or in a pound.

Hopefully this woman did not have the cat around other animals. If she did and the kitten has not had his shots I would quarantine him tell a vet gives it the vaccinations.

Be sure to clean this kittens nails, there is a possibility of it carrying the Bactria I listed above and this would be bad for you also. If this is the bactira that lead to the child getting the swelling you will need to treat the cat and your house for fleas also.

It's possible some feces was on the cats nail that led to a bactirial infection because the wound was not cleaned properly.

Good Luck.

The mama cat may not recognize it, since they go by smell.
If you want the kitten back, take it back. Wrap it up in a blanket or something the mother's smell is on, this will get the smell on the kitten so it won't seem strange to the mother. When the mother is away from where she sleeps, put the kitten in her bed, watch to see what the mother does, I doubt the mother will reject it. Just give it some time, maybe a day or up to a week, for them to get reacquainted again. It's also possible she misses not having her kittens and will take to it right away!

Hi, the mummy may not immediately recognise the kitten as hers, but she will probably accept it. Take it back and handle it so it smells like you, if you have an old tshirt rub it on the mummy and then wrap the kitten in it, she will smell you and herself. Good luck!

If you are patient and want your kitten back, you can get them mom to take it back. It may take a couple of days to start smelling like home again before she will take it back.

If your kitten is still dependant on its mother then you have given them away way too early. I hope that is not the case. All you can do is see how the mother reacts.

I think that the mother will reject it because it doesn't smell like a cat anymore. But u should see how your cat will react.
