I've heard that too but never had a problem with any of my dogs. I did start giving mine milk and water instead of just milk but only because I was going through so much milk. There are so many things we shouldn't feed our dogs these days it's almost impossible to keep up. Personaly I don't let mine have chocolate, that's been proven to be bad, grapes or any grape products, again proven to be bad or onions, supposed to be bad but give them terrible wind anyway. It's been said that you shouldn't feed dogs chicken bones but mine have been fed on chicken carcases for almost 20 years and I've never had a problem. I never feed them cooked, always raw. Years ago, back in the 60s you weren't supposed to feed dogs white bread because it was said to give them distemper, it was actualy the bleach they used to treat the flour that caused fits. I still can't get it out of my head though and won't feed mine white bread even though I know it's safe.
Enjoy your pup,
Best wishes

Dogs should eat a diet similar to what they would eat in the wild - all studies show that human food is unhealthy for dogs, and the nutritional balances in cow's milk do not match the needs of a dog. Getting the extra calories from milk will either cause them to eat less of their nutritionally correct food causing deficiencies, or to still eat the same causing obesity. There is no research showing that cows milk is good for dogs - only the opposite. What does your vet say about this issue, and what is their background in studying this?

ALL (not most) dogs are lactose intolerant. they are not humans... they are a different species. they do not have the enzyme needed to break down lactose in their stomachs. its that simple.
now, all dogs love to eat and drink things that taste nice - milk tastes nice. this does not mean its good for him and it does NOT mean it isnt making him feel sick.
The sick feeling, the cramps and pain and possible diarrhea happens from 10 minutes to a few hours after they have eaten. this means that the dog probably isnt relating the sick feeling to the milk at all - hence he will want more.
just because your dog doesnt LOOK sick, doesnt mean he isnt feeling sick or having some pain in his tummy. And just because he hasnt had bad diarrhea from milk up to now, doesnt mean he wont ever get it.
in extreme cases cows milk can kill pups. This isnt rocket science. It does nothing for their health - any vet who tells you to mix 1/2 water 1/2 milk is just trying to appease you.
it does nothing for their health and can give them pain, cramps and diarrhea - why would you feed an animal something that can do this to them.. on purpose when it isnt needed in the first place??

No one should drink cows milk and I would believe it would be true for animals as well; except for calves.
I know this flies in the face of what so called "food experts" say however if you will take the time to read the site listed below you may find at least 52 reasons why not to drink cows milk. Has anyone else posted any references for their stand?

I have been told bye vets if you consider a cow has 4 stomachs. I've always been told by vets that milk should be deluted 1/2 and 1/2 with water but it's ok. I also have been told that goats milk is much better for dogs and pups. You may want to ask your vet he/she should know the best.

The problem with cows milk is that pups/dogs are unable to digest it effectively. This can lead to problems and can cause diarrhoea. Goats milk is better.

Just in general, cow's milk is about the least nutritious milk per ounce of any available. Check with your vet just in case but I always used puppy formula for my growing dogs but that was many years ago.

My vet ytold me never to give my pup cows milk. it can upset their tummies. They do sell a puppy milk in some supermarkets, and it's made from goat milk. It may be worth buying goat milk from now on instead. if you're really worried, phone your vet and ask for advice.
