Wall paper and wide screen monitors don't get along well. What you want to do it "crop" your images to fit your screen, not "resize" them. Your wide screen's height is approximately 2/3 it width. So use a program like Gimp or photoshop so that you will have rulers to work with. Once you have your photo cropped to to these dimensions, they will only distort a tiny bit when Windows stretches them to fit your screen.

Search for 'Portable Image Resizer'. After load the program, you'll need to point the dir that have the picutures. Below, you'll find the resize configuration, and others sets. I use this frequently and recommend.

If you head over to Desktop Nexus ( http://www.desktopnexus.com ) and upload your wallpaper there, it'll automatically resize it to almost every other resolution (screen size)... including widescreen aspect ratios. It's very easy, very powerful, and made specifically for wallpapers.

Good luck!
