Think Jefferson Park is in Chicago...there must be HUNDREDS of bridal shops in your area. Find one close to home. It will make your life SO much easier!

First mistake: Don't be afraid of a bridal shop because it is not a chain store. In a local bridal shop you will find: 1: customer attention 2: willing to work with a budget. 3: customer attention

TELL THE LADIES YOUR BUDGET! They are not judging you!

These are not scary women! Tell them what you're looking for and what you are prepared to spend...and you will be amazed at the number of dresses that they will bring to your dressing room. They know what they're doing!

A chain store will just bring you aggravation....they may or may not have the dress in another location, a local store will order directly from the manufacturer and tell you if you have a problem right then. A chain store may or may not have a local seamstress...so you have to trust the tape measure of someone who only works on Saturdays vs. someone who even working part time...is doing this 3-4 days a week, who knows how to measure and communicate with a local seamstress.

Dont' judge a store based on size....you'll probably find yourself treated like a queen even though you had the budget of a frog in a local store vs a chain

David's bridal, hopefully there is one near you. I got my dress for $250 and I love it! I had to drive 2 hrs to get there, but it was worth it. I went during the $99 sale (mine was $50 off), and I didn't really like what they had for the $99 ones, but they had a lot of beautiful ones for under $500.

Check out their website and look at the prices. When you go on sale days you get at least $50 off a dress. http://www.davidsbridal.com/index.jsp

Like the other woman who posted mentioned, I too have heard of plenty of horror stories about them. But I had a good experience. My only complaint was that I didn't look into other items before hand...meaning I bought a $150 veil that I could have gotten for $40, which I am still kicking myself about (and nothing is returnable...I tried). So if you go there, I would recommend not purchasing accessories there. Just get the dress!

Good luck! :)

i live in Australia so may not be of much help.
but...
i went wedding dress shopping with a friend of mine and i noticed that all the prices were ridiculous!
so now that i'm planning my wedding i skipped all those shops and went to a local dress maker.
I told her my design and then picked the material, got a quote BEFORE telling her it was a wedding dress.
my dress is almost 1/2 the price of a similar dress the same dress maker made a few years back. i believe its because i didn't let on that it was for a wedding.
best of luck! i'm sure you'll find the perfect one for you xx

David's Bridal has great $99 sales....but word of advice.... CASH AND CARRY. Don't let them touch it except to bag it for you and such. I heard horror stories about them and was dead set against going to them....in the end it was all I could afford so I went and found a beautiful dress for $99 that was $450 originally. (have your bridesmaids cash and carry too if they buy there, aside from having to order a size and wait a few weeks, thats all you should allow David's to do.)

I got mine for $98 at therosedress.com. I bought it out of the bridesmaids section, but it's exactly what I wanted for a wedding dress. They had even less expensive ones. Check out the clearance section for some fabulous deals.
