Maybe you don't, but they do. Do you find it annoying when people quote movies, music, or books? It's the same thing. They've found something that they think is funny, or profound, or just sounds cool, and they pick up on it.
By the way, I bet you probably quoted scripture without even knowing it.

We quote the scriptures because you or someone else ask for proof, That is why we quote scriptures, I have always said, if you are on R&S site & ask a Religious question, why not show you where it is in the bible, & not just give you our words. Yes, I can give you my own words, but still they will be scriptures, the only difference will be, I don't open my bible. Because the word of God is in My heart.

I think it is normal for people to quote Shakespeare, Lincoln, Hemingway, Kennedy, scenes from "The Office", etc.
People quote things they have heard that help them express what they are thinking.
Christians study the words of their faith and therefore have them in mind when responding to questions and discussing life.
I suspect that a sign of brain atrophy is if they can't quote anything because they don't read or listen or think or express themselves. They will probably cling to more simple phrases like "flying fart".

You see the drivel that they say when they try to think for themselves. It is the smarter ones who don't even try, but just stick to scripture. They can't understand it, but since that is good enough for them, they can only hope that it will be good enough for everyone else. Anyway, as dumb as it is, scripture is far less stupid that their own ideas. So, people who quote scripture all the time are good examples of the dangers of never learning to think.

An we can give a flying about a science text book, so why do you keep quoting them.
Let me quote Dr. Fred Hoyle from his classic text on astronomy:
Pluto is a planet.

The brain or intellect can argue equally for both sides of a point. It has no affiliation. It is a machine that can be used to justify one's desire.
Same with debating, when an opponent is cornered, he may suddenly 'have to go visit his grandmother'.
Scripture is fact, ............opinions everyone has one.

Jesus told me not to quote scripture only to disprove what the people who are quoting scripture are quoting.

We quote scripture because it is the Word of God. We believe in God, so therefore his Word is important to understanding our faith and beliefs.
If you are in the R&S section, asking us why we believe and how we back it up...we are going to quote scripture.
Duh!
If you don't care...don't read the answers.
