Most medical Journals now report that studies show that homosexuality is a choice brought on by one's surroundings, i.e. people you hang with, etc.
They also report that there has never been a "gay gene" found.
So, yes, a person can be "cured" as you say by simply making another choice.

No, it isn't an illness. The psychiatric profession (the real one, run by scientists, not religious sorcerers) stopped characterizing homosexuality as a disorder almost 30 years ago. With the current research pointing out the presence of a genetic basis for sexual orientation, it is difficult to believe there are still ignorant people who think it's a "choice."
Far too many of us heterosexuals are fearful of homosexuals. In most cases, it's men who are uncertain of their own sexuality, and are terrified by the idea they might be gay. They live in constant fear of being approached by gays. It's usually men who think women also find them irresistible (or should). We lash out against that which scares us the most.
I've known a lot of homosexuals over the years, both male and female. They're just regular people. They work, they pay taxes, and they just try to get along in the world like anyone else.
Religionists who think homosexuality is a "choice" need to consider this: Why would anyone choose to be marginalized by society, to be attacked on nearly a daily basis, to be condemned publicly by self-righteous slugs, and occasionally suffer physical abuse by macho dopes?
It's time for religionists to mind their own business. Heterosexuals are known to engage in some pretty revolting behavior, too. What consenting adults do in private is not anyone's concern.
Kenny: Which "medical journals?" The ones published by the religionists to forward their fascist agenda? There are a lot of charlatans out there. If you're going to say "medical journals," you'd better be prepared to tell us WHICH medical journals. I can't imagine any legitimate medical journal published after 1975 which would still characterize homosexuality as a disease. The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) dropped homosexuality as a disorder back in the late 70s. You won't find it in the current edition, either, in spite of pressure from religious nuts. Religionists are so good at citing chapter and verse; How about you give out with chapter and verse (and author) of the "medical journals" you speak of.

You speak of homosexuality as though it is a disease, and only indicate that because religion says it is true, then that is a valid arguement. You will find that if you stop paying attention to hearsay and rumours, then they will not have much cause to make you think.
Religion these days seem to be more about slandering other people's beliefs and spreading hatred through the world than their original ideals of preaching about their various loving gods. I don't see much talk in the way of "loving" lately, if these are the people who think they are living up to their religion's belief system.

Is homosexuality a sickness?
I think that there are people who used to be homosexual, but aren't anymore. Or at least, they live a heterosexual lifestyle, with marriage and everything. They choose to do so because they know that this is God's way.

Homosexuality is a choice as much as stupidity is a choice. Why isn't stupidity a sin? Because it is highly prized among christians.

Yes, there is a group called Courage that helps homosexuals.
"From our website you will learn about homosexuality and chastity. By developing an interior life of chastity, which is the universal call to all Christians, one can move beyond the confines of the homosexual identity to a more complete one in Christ."
It is a wonderful ministry and has helped many people who are affected by same-sex attraction.

Homosexuality, as murder, a pedophile, etc. is a " choice. " Though those living in this manner have been trying to make their gay lifestyles anything else but a personal choice. But in 1 corinthians chapter 6 we learn that some homosexuals in the Corinth church " were " homosexuals until the cleansing blood of Jesus washed them. They repented and were made whole. The only cure for any sin is Jesus. Yes indeed, even for homosexuals.

1.In the majority of cases being gay is a 'mental problem' not an actual choice.
2.In other cases it may be a lifestyle choice because they associate more easily with others of their own sex.
3.And finally some have tried everything and now want the 'forbidden fruits'.
2 and 3 could be redirected to live a 'natural' lifestyle.
Those in section 1 are a 'medical abnormality' and have been since birth so they cannot be converted in any way.
Total brainwash might work but it would be a bit drastic.

Being gay is not a disease. Why should we look for a cure? Let's look for a cure to something that kills us.
