Open up your MS Office (i am using 2007 almost the same)

If i remember right for older version
"Insert" Tab
Picture from file
and find the picture where it was and insert it.

for 2007
Insert
Picture
and find the picture.

save it as a .doc and thats all.

Most scanners have OCR software included. This will scan your document into a text file for you in one step.

If you really need to convert the JPG to PDF you could try using something like PrimoPDF - it's free and it allows you to print anything into a PDF file.

If your image is a jpg file, all you need to do it select the image (you don't even need to open it first) and copy it into a word document and go to format picture, in case you want to format it before you save the doc file.

If the text is legible and it's a fairly simple document, you can run it through an OCR (optical character recognition) software that comes with most scanners but you can download one if needed. Other than that, you may have to re-type the document if you really need to have an editable version.

"So how can I convert it into word file?", you can't.

If you have a scanner with OCR software, you may be able to scan the print of the jpg, but I doubt it.

If you can, ask the sender of the JPG to send the original doc file.
