They do. My dogs do & I have seen pictures of other dogs smiling!!!

Actually, some of them do. It's the most hideous grin ever, but some dogs are smart enough to pick up on the fact that humans grin when they are happy, and they start grinning when they are extremely happy, too! You'll definetely be able to tell by the rest of their body language: squirming in happiness, extreme tail wagging, etc. I had a Boxer I raised from a pup, and after having her for a couple of months, I noticed she would bare her front teeth a little when I gave her extra attention. She would wriggle with joy and grin!
A couple of years later, I adopted a little mutt that looked like a cross between an Italian Greyhound and a fox, and she would also grin, but only for me. It was a much more noticeable grin than the Boxer's though-all her front teeth bared, and her little nose all wrinkled up. It ended up being a game between us. I would look at her all serious, and she would look back at me, and then I would grin and she would grin back and come running for attention! *lol* She was the coolest dog.
So yeah, some dogs do learn what a human smile means and will return it. :)

i think it can smile. i have two dogs and live with them more than 10 years , i find that when they were fed , gone out for playing or anything that is pleased to them , they very happy and express their feeling.
at that time the mounth of dog often open so we have feeling that they re smiling like human (when happiness , human also often smile) we maybe consider they smiling is also ok because they smile also nice , right?

I believe they smile with their eyes. When I was in school a hundred years ago, they said animals didnt have the abilty to think, now we know better. You can tell when they are glad to see you and happy with the current situation.

certainly looks like they do, you cant always tell if a dogs happy or not so I guess we just like to think they smile.

people just dont see it that much because we dont concentrate looking at them...

yes dog o smile....but u can ahrdlynotice...if u observe thm properly ..u see there facil expression very wel....if u r god in understanding feeling of animals,thn u can notice tht wen they r sad they make sad expression wid there eyes n if they r happy thy raise there mouth...smilinggggggg.....
