I would recommend not cutting the wire, use the emergency wax, call the after hours line. Follow procedures given to you during the time of banding.
Cutting the wire itself could be dangerous if it was done with the wrong instruments. Normally the orthodontist will fit you in as the first patient the next day to fix it and reappoint you to get them placed back if it was more than just simple.
Just eat carefully, slow is the keyword.

You can cut the wire if you are in a lot of pain, they can always put a new one in. Just make sure that you bring the braces with you when you go in. Also let them know that you did cut the wire. Be careful with what you are eating so this doesn't happen again!!

If it's so painful that you need to cut the wire and get the brackets off, it's probably okay to do so as long as you get to the orthodontist first thing tomorrow. If your orthodontist isn't available, usually you can get another one in your area to help you out in the meantime, so long as it's something like merely reattaching the brackets and wire and it shouldn't cost you much.
Hope you feel better!

It happened alot of times with me .. the best thing is try to straight the wire so that the tension is reduced in the wire ..If you cant do that then its better to cut cause ur tooth is under alot of trauma and the wire cost is not that much as compared tothe damage to ur tooth and pain ... But I never cut my wire no matter how much the pain .. I straighten it

I would recommend calling the after hours line for your orthodontist to find out if he's on call and then let him know what happened.

You should get a special gel from a chemist and it will stop the pain.
