you could try mixing soft with dry, and reducing the amount of soft over a few days - but it is likely that the cat will just eat around the dry food. its pretty pointless.
so just stop feeding him soft canned food. if he only has dry available, he wont allow himself to starve to death.
you could try moistening the dry food with a bit of water to start him off.... but only do it for a few days - lessen the amount of water you use to soften it each day til its just plain dry.
dry food is actually better for a cats teeth and breath than canned wet food.

I dont think he will eat a bowl of dry food after he is used to soft, Try and get him off the soft food by gradually introducing dry food to its diet, and mix the 2 foods together until eventually it just eats dry food, good luck and have a nice day!

Make sure your cat has dry food down all the time, and slowly cut back on the amount of wet food you offer her. She will be hungry and will start eating the dry. It is rare that an animal will allow themselves to go hungry if food is available.

I agree with Ken. Wet food is better for cats than dry. Please read the article 'Cats Need Wet Food' below before trying to convert your cat to dry food.
http://www.selfgrowth.com/articles/Cats_Need_Wet_Food_12085.html
Dental disease: Dry food has a high sugar (carbohydrate) content, which has been shown to cause dental decay.
For cats to derive any supposed abrasive benefit from dry foods to be seen, they would have to actually chew their dry food. Since they have to crunch dry food in order to swallow it, there's no abrasive action from chewing something hard.
Think of it logically. Dogs mouths are known to contain less germs than cats'. This is because they chew bones and saliva helps keep their teeth and gums clean. On the other hand cats' mouths are full of germs, which means that dry food isn't doing that good a job of cleaning their teeth after all.

Your cat is smart. You don't want to feed it dry food. It is loaded with carbs and, has bad stuff that many cats have trouble processing and most of the moisture has been zapped out of it during processing.. Cats normally are not big drinkers and get what they need from their food. Take it from someone whose cat got diabetes from eating dry food. The rise in the consumption of dry foods has coincided with a big rise in diabetes and kidney disease amoung other things.

You just leave dry food in a bowl, and lots of clean water in another. When it is hungry, it will eat. Don't think it won't because it's been 'spoiled'. Give canned food rarely, as a treat.

Mix them at the beginning, then gradually add more dry food to her canned food, then gradually stop using the canned food.

they usually eat what they're raised on. Had a cat that wouldn't eat shrimp or fish. Only dry food. Go figure?
