I got this old and fairly cheap guitar and im planing on changing the pick ups and i want to paint the body and neck. What kind of pick ups would be good to put in the guitar (btw its a Les Paul body guitar) and how am i to paint it with a design? What tools do i need?

EMGs are nice. If you get the active ones (EMG 81) that use a 9 volt battery. If you are into Ozzy / Zak Wylde sound, he uses them.

Painting can be very tedious and take quite a while to do it right. Look at

I just finished my first one and it came out pretty nice. Spend on it taking 2 months to do right. The paint takes a while to cure. You should use lacquer for color and lots of clear coats. There are ways to take printed designs on transparent paper and put them on the guitar. You need to do it right so it doesn't curl up and cover it with lots of clear. Then you wet sand everything down, and buff it out like you were painting a car.

Good luck!

As it's a Les Paul U want humbucking pickups - there are variousbrands around - ask in ur local music shop. There are books on the market that tell U how to rewire guitars etc. Painting is tricky, but i do have a book that tells u how. U really need spray paint for the basic body colour. It's called the Illustrated Completr Guitar Handbook (Flame tree publishing, but I'm sure there are others. Hope this helps.

www.stewmac.com has all the painting stuff - but it's not that critical on a solid body. I'd hesitate about painting the neck - your hands will probably wear it off quickly. For pick-ups, look at the Dimarzio and the Seymour Duncan web sites - they have comparison charts that describe the sounds of their various humbuckers.
