I do not think that I have been to church since 9/11. I went to Afghanistan right after. I met with the chaplin and two other guys who felt much like myself many times. Most the time I just had my own bible study, just me and God.
The last three weekends I have been having a bible study with my wife, her best friend and her boy friend. (the best-friend's boy friend, not my wife's bf.) We are doing it again tommorrow. Sooner or later I may bring up the idea that we dont have to do it on sunday, but not just yet. Tommorrow I am going to have to bring up time limits, and get a little more structured. We alternate homes we meet in. Last week I had some stuff to do and felt very uncomfortable when our study had gone to 5 hours. But its a fairly simple thing, some worshipful music, you know some Amy Grant or something then we have a little verse study, we talk about whats going on with us, we pray.
For me, I cant find a "church" where I feel comfortable (yes I have looked that's an entirely different story.)
What started this experiment was: My wife's bf attended a church for a good while, they did not approve of her BF. So she decided that her and her bf would have their own service, I hopped on and brought the family, it has been relatively good so far. The only problem we have is I have a pendulum some days I feel like God is exactly as he is portrayed in the bible loving, kind, compassionate and forgiveing. And sometimes I feel like God is exactly as he is portrayed in the bible demanding, vascilating from 'I am God I love you' to 'I am God I will Kill you' and it's when I feel like this that I see the apparent changes in God's 'rules of the game.'
Anyway, to the point. You dont have to go to church, You are the church.

I swore a personal vow a long time ago that I would never set foot inside a christian church again. Imagine my surprise, when I learned that my grandmother was a member of the church affiliated with the school that I was sent to as a child (she never attended, but because she was married there, they counted her as a member), and they were conducting her funeral service.
I had to break my vow to attend her funeral. I had the 'pleasure' of a priest using the "lord let us pray" portion on the service to call my sister and I out, since we are both atheists, as well as a lecture at the grave-site for not saying the prayers 'out of courtesy' (We sat quietly thru the service, out of respect for those who were christian). My last words to a priest were "Do the job that my family is paying the church for you to do".
It's been four years since that happened, and I'll be damned if I ever set foot in a church (of any nature) again.

I am a born again, Bible believing Christian, but I do not go to church because I don't believe in religion. We fellowship with other born again Christians and we have Bible study and prayer. This works great for us.
