There are several accents in English. A few examples are: USA, UK, and Australia. They all have their own sounds, and some words mean different things depending on where you live as well. The best way to learn is to watch television (that way you can listen to more than one person as some people speak more quickly than others, etc.). I would also make a recording of someone speaking properly and repeat after them. There is an instant messaging site that allows people to speak with one another and ask questions as they learn and or practise another language. It is called "paltalk". Go to the website, download the software and go to the English room and listen to people speaking. When you are comfortable, and you have a microphone, you can speak as well and ask for criticisms. Hope this helps.

First learn the language. The accent will come with practice in actually USING the language. And no other way. As you SPEAK the language, the nuances of the people you practice with will start to show in your own speech patterns. And IF you get good enough at the language to have truly mastered it, you can take courses on how to speak WITHOUT a discernable accent, such as those taken by radio personalities and TV announcers and such, so that you can be better understood by all people speaking the language, not just those in the region you originally learned to speak it.

Last but not the least remember their is no shortcut to success, for even God helps those who help themselves. Once you begin different choices of ways to proceed will open up for you themselves. English speaking depends on how confident u are! If u keep on thinking that others will laugh at u if u speak English, u wont' be able to speak that English in ur life!

Let's take this simple instance!

"Long time no see, howdy buddy!"

Grammatically speaking, this sentence is incorrect. But, it is a 'peer group' sentence and is universally understood and spoken for that matter!
The meaning is: "I have not seen you for ages. How are you, my friend!"

Any English-medium student will speak out the peer group sentence with the correct intonation and stress!
But, a student from a typically vernacular medium educational student will feel shy in speaking this 'grammatically incorrect' sentence!

Accent in speaking English can be imp[roved in two ways:

(i) Regularly follow the BBC news bulletins in the radio as well as the TV) to know how they pronounce the words.

(ii) The better option is to enjoy the TV! U'll have the audio-visual means to learn the English accent and language as well.

There are several pronunciation tips. One thing is for sure, though! U will have to abundantly use ur lips tongue, teeth and also the tone to improve ur intonation and accent especially with respect to English!

U can contact me at nilutpalgogoi@yahoo.co.in to know the details of this practical and ancillary offers!

There are many tongue twisters to improve ur pronunciation, for instance!

Know one practical thing at the very outset!

A grounding in English grammar will help u to speak better English: this pertains to accent as well!

Spoken English is vastly different from written English! In the former case, u do not at all need grammar. U just need to express ur feelings. It can through signs or simply through single words.

But, for written English u must have a good grounding on grammar.

U'll have to see into which of the following categories u fit into!
If u were groomed in a vernacular-medium school, be assured that u have an advantage over those students who went to English-medium schools.

U know grammar, pronunciation, and intonation of the English language!

However, ur minus point is that u think too much about grammar while trying to converse in English!

So, take this tip from a person who has been grooming students to converse in English!
While speaking, throw all grammar to the winds. Don't ever think about grammar while communicating!

The latter category does know but very little about grammar! But, the fact remains that they do not have any hangups or nervousness while speaking English

On the other hand, the former category will start thinking about grammar while speaking English!

There are 2 types of learners of any language: People who pick up the language and those who learn the language.

The best way to learn any language is to pick up the language and then to learn it.
This is because people who pick up the language rarely know its grammar. But, they can speak the language with the natural body language, intonation and eye contact.

Such people can converse in that language particularly because they have picked up the language from a community that speaks the language.

Hence, such learners pick up the language and along with it the mannerisms. They do not hesitate or feel shy while speaking the language! This is despite the fact that they know
nothing about grammar concerning that language!

So, start speaking, thinking and learning English.
Moreover, the structures of sentences and even the pronunciations of words differ according to the different linguistic groups.

So, training is require for speaking 'Spoken English' with the proper accent and pronunciation.

Try to follow the tips & u'll be successful in speaking this internationally accepted rich and flexible language within just three months!
