When you die, your soul or spirit will move away from your body and be under the care of Gold but not directly to heaven. When judgment comes you will be judge then if it was found our that you are a sinner when still living, you will go to hell to be cast to the lake of fire and be burn which is called the second death but it is not the death of human flesh but death of soul/spiirit and then you will turn to ashes and dust which will seve as food for the snake who enticed Eve to commit sin.

For the soul there is neither birth nor death at any time. He has not come into being, does not come into being, and will not come into being. He is unborn, eternal, ever-existing and primeval. He is not slain when the body is slain.
: how can a person who knows that the soul is indestructible, eternal, unborn and immutable kill anyone or cause anyone to kill?
: As a person puts on new garments, giving up old ones, the soul similarly accepts new material bodies, giving up the old and useless ones.
: The soul can never be cut to pieces by any weapon, nor burned by fire, nor moistened by water, nor withered by the wind.
: This individual soul is unbreakable and insoluble, and can be neither burned nor dried. He is everlasting, present everywhere, unchangeable, immovable and eternally the same.
: It is said that the soul is invisible, inconceivable and immutable. Knowing this, you should not grieve for the body.
: If, however, you think that the soul [or the symptoms of life] is always born and dies forever, you still have no reason to lament, O mighty-armed.
One who has taken his birth is sure to die, and after death one is sure to take birth again. Therefore, in the unavoidable discharge of your duty, you should not lament.
All created beings are unmanifest in their beginning, manifest in their interim state, and unmanifest again when annihilated. So what need is there for lamentation?
Some look on the soul as amazing, some describe him as amazing, and some hear of him as amazing, while others, even after hearing about him, cannot understand him at all.

beartooth- it doesn't matter what people want to believe, it's what the evidence says about validity of a claim that matters. Or are you just a moron?
I REALLY hope there is an afterlife, for two reasons. One, it would be cool. Two, it would be funny to get to an all encompasing heavenly realm and see religious people find out that they followed a bunch of dumb rules for no reason.
Nothing- possible, even probable, but boring.
specific religions heaven/hell, reincarnation- cute, but almost certainly fairy tales told by people that had no clue what they were talking about.
general next dimension stuff- possible, and really exciting. Also the most productive view, as you get the peace in this life without the judgement of others.

I believe in reincarnation, and that it depends on the level of consciousness you have attained at the time of death to the physical body. The soul will either ascend to heaven or reincarnate back to the physical plane into a new body to "give it another go" .. until all lessons are learned and the spirit is sufficiently purified to re-enter the kingdom of heaven, from whence we came.

Yes, when you die, your soul gets lifted up in heaven into the presence of God. It says in the bible, "It is appointed to a man to die once, and then the judgment." Our life is played back to us, and we see everywhere we've done poorly and let God down. But we also see the good side, where every righteous act we've ever done is sung back to us by the angels in heaven in celebration of who we are and what we chose to do. God is good all of the time. 100% good.

I believe it depends on the state of our soul, and if we have accomplished our purpose in life or not. I believe in reincarnation. And I also believe there is the opportunity to be liberated from the cycle of birth and rebirth. That is when we abide with God. I'm not sure of the exact form this takes.

I am Catholic and believe that I will be in the presence of the Lord, but will have to spend time in Purgatory. This is a place between Heaven and Hell. Eventually, I will go to Heaven...

I believe when you die, there is nothing. Game over. Nothing more. No heaven, no hell, no white light, no god, no devil. Just one second, your heart is beating and your are breathing... and then you aren't.
And I'm okay with that... there doesn't HAVE to be anything more to life than just... LIFE.
