As with most things, this is a question of moderation. It's fine to feed your cat a little bit of your food as long as it's some kind of meat or fish or dairy product without too many additives (avoid sugar, salt, seasonings, spices) but don't overdo it. Certainly don't make it the main part of your cat's diet!
A cat that lives on table scraps is not eating healthy and can become very ill from poor nutrition or develop kidney disease or stomach problems. I know of cats who have died from kidney failure because they ate too much "people food" and others who developed chronic diahhrea from too much oily canned sardines or tuna.
Still it's hard to always be pushing away a cat that begs and paws at you, or stares up at you with big round eyes and thinks he/she should be sharing your dinner. One of mine has to check out everything I eat just in case it might something "good for kitties"! Your best bet is to keep it as a little treat every now and then and stick to cat food for their meals.

Occasional scraps are ok. Some cats don't even like people food.
My old cat (may her soul rest in peace) used to sit behind me on my chair when we'd sit at the dining room table and I'd give her little bits of fish, chicken, ect. She lived to be nearly 20 years old and she was an indoor/outdoor cat!
My current kitty is about a year old and I occasionally let her have a taste of what I'm eating, whether its cheese or chicken.
The thing to remember is that this should be an occasional treat and only small amounts should be given. People food should never replace cat food. I've also read that you should be careful when giving them tuna fish because its like crack to them and if you give it to them too often thats all they'll want to eat.
Best of luck to you and your little furry friend!

No, dont feed your cat table scraps. Often our food is seasoned with extra salt and sugars that are not good for your cat. As a treat I will give my pets Chicken, once in a while, but I cook it without seasonings. I cook it in a little flax oil that is god for their coats. I only give them this as a treat. Cat food is best for cats, because all the protein and fats are balanced.

well everyone has there own opinion on this. I have a 12 year old cat, he normally eats Purina 1 senior protection , but I do feed him some scraps as a treat. I have found that if you give them to many table scrapes they tend to not want to eat their regular food. and in older cats this can cause digestive problems.

Some people might disagree with me here but yes its fine. If its only meat, fish or poultry without bones and cooked up. Some suggest raw meat but I have never done this.. They are carnivores and if left on their own will eat mice, birds etc..
I always have dry food available and some cans but if the cooked meat does not have any spices etc on it.. then go ahead they love it.

Yes sure, as long as it gets a healthy balanced diet too, i see no wrong with that, but chocolate is a no no very poisonus to cats, My cat likes cheese she eats anything, she only has small amounts of fatty foods because i dont want her to get fat! Good luck, give your cat a hug from me and have a nice day!

Yes, as long as it is not poisonous to them, like chocolates or junkfoods.
But don't rely on table scraps, although my cat lived on waiting for our leftovers (he's already 8 years old - he's an elegant stray cat anyway who still goes to our house for meal time). It is still necessary for your cat to be given catfood for packed nutrition which table scraps couldn't give.

Our family has a cat and we
fed it table scraps. Then it started clogging her up
so we took her to the vet
and they said not to feed ur cat
table scraps becuase it was clogging up the glands by her butt and it was making her throw up and she was getting sick.
We still give her a little bit of milk here and there.
But i think giving ur cat table scraps may shorten their life!

i share my smoked haddock with my cat all the time - diffrent plates mind you!!! i also give her other meats if i have to much. she has recently had babies and since she was oregnant she has turnt like a dog and sat scrounging for anything allthough she is well feed. she never used to go on my sides so i dont worry about scraping my dinner in the bin straight away but since she got pregnant she has been helping her self - chicken curry and rice, kfc, donner kebabs, chinese style pork - the lot!!!! she is still healthy and i have started to scrape food in the bin so she cant get it.

NO! most of the crap we humans eat is full of sodium, preservatives and the like.A good brand cat food is scientifically designed for feline digestion.Cats are VERY sensitive to food and unless you want them vomiting or worse developing internal problems just feed then food specifically made for them.
