Quick background for anyone reading this wondering what the heck I'm trying to do. To improve my reading/writing/comprehension language skills, I enjoy translating various pieces of literature until I'm familliar.

http://www.bol.it is an online bookstore, and I have to translate word for word and I'm beginning to get quite confused.

I am searching for an italian language equivilant to something along the lines of the King James Version of the Holy Bible (old testament aka "hebrew bible", and the new testament). Due to my non-fluent problems, I can't figure out which books are about the bible (opinions etc) and which book is the actual equivalent to an old testament + new testament bible.

Can someone who understands please visit the website and locate for me a title and an EAN of the book I'm looking for?

(I am also game for contemporary interesting children's books in italian... I would appreciate any titles of fun kid books to buy and translate!)

Thank you!!!

By the way, OT is vecchio testamento.

You can access the whole of the Holy Bible (La Sacra Bibbia) free on the internet through the following: http://www.laparola.net/english.html

The intro is in English. I suggest initially you go to the "The Bible divided by chapters" bit - then you are in Italian; but you'll easily recognise the chapter names - Matteo, Marco, Luca - Matthew, Mark, Luke and pick something you're familiar with.

Most Italians talk a few English, so that you would not have difficulty. But consider, the Italians are the "rednecks of Europe" (And I imply that properly!) and plenty of talk English poorly. Or in no way. But for those who talk the language, or no less than a bit of of it, the Italians will admire you a lot more in your attempt. If you've ever discovered Spanish, they're very identical languages. Don't fear, you'll be able to do excellent! Enjoy your keep in Roma! Try to discuss with Firenzia when you have time!

If you can barely understand Italian, why in the world would you want to read such a difficult book such as the bible in Italian? I think it's hard enough in English. Try reading some Italian magazines or Italian novels. I'm American living in Italy(I've been here 8 years and am 98% fluent). I've read the bible in Italian twice....it's not a piece of cake.

P.S Not to be mean, but 99.9% of the online translators are complete crap.

What you want to be looking for is "antico testamento" for "old bible" and nuovo testamento or vangelo for the most recent one.

I am not religious, so I can't help you choosing among all the titles (I never read them), but I hope that you can navigate through this search (hope it works):
http://www.bol.it/libri/ricerca;jsessionid=05E6B71FF089C5EE4BB0341605345744
There is also a Bible for children:
http://www.bol.it/libri/scheda/ea978882155423.html

As well as all these books (not related to the Bible):
http://www.bol.it/libri/sottogenere?id=000092&sgen=N.02

I have a question: how are you planning to translate these books if you are not fluent in Italian? I am Italian mother tongue and fluent in French English and Spanish, but I would find it difficult to translate a book!

Anyway, thanks for the link: I needed an online shop for Italian books!!

I don't know if this will help, but I bought a Bible in Italy for a friend a few years ago. It said Santa Bibbia on it, I think. (It's been a while.)
