We have a stray cat that comes around our house from time to time and lays by our front door.. Today, when I went to go get my mail.. there was a dead bird on the sidewalk (by where the cat was laying).. My Husband joked that it's "animal instincts" were kicking in because it was hungry. But, I joked that it must have brought us a present. lol Glad to know that I'm not the only one who got a present today.. lol

To put it simply, you are the Alpha! Your cat is attempting to show his/her loyalty and devotion to you in a strange way. Cats leave presents as a sign of admiration, loyalty, and submission. There are many theories, but this one seems to be the most agreed upon. Cats are natural hunters, and stalking things and killing them is quite natural for your kitty. The end result of all the hard work is given to the one they view as being in charge. That would be YOU!

this is quite natural...my cat does it too...have you thought about getting him/her a collar with a bell on? this sometimes help as it will be more difficult for them to catch a bird or whatever.
Your cat actually sees this as 'giving you a present'. If you scold your cat for doing this, they think you are not happy with the quality of that gift or something like that..lol..and will venture out in search of a better one. Praise your cat for these little prezzies!

That is so sweet. Your cat loves you.
Give kitty a piece of lunch meat or some milk and when she is finished, take the dead stuff to the garbage.

Haha I think I know. See, dogs and cats (mostly cats cuz they are the hunting pets mostly...) feel they are like family to you; their 'herd' you could say lol. Ur cat probably wants to show you what they just caught. 'Look, I just caught this bird for you! Have some! Give me praise!' Kind of like that.

They're gifts. Take it as a compliment. Tell the cat it's a good girl/boy, pet it lovingly then when it leaves, clean the porch.

he's doing it the two as a organic instinct, and showing a demonstration of happiness or bringing you a contemporary. To a cat, giving their proprietor a ineffective animal (climate a chicken, mouse, etc, etc) is like giving them the appropriate present ever. Your cat is now showing you the way happy you have made him. (@clockwork_knight, cats and canines are domesticated. i think of the asker is sensible adequate to recognize you're trolling.)

Hum....because he/she loves you and is giving you a "gift"......seriously, instinctively this is a way of your cat loving you....
Sorry, i have no advice for ending this behavior...maybe just smile, say "thank you" and toss the gift into trash?
