So they can feel better about themselves on the off chance that there is a God. They want that "Get out of Hell Free" card. We call them C & E Christians.

Purely because Christmas and Easter have become more then a religious celebration. The media has made them and accepted pattern of behavior for both religious and non-religious people. Non-religious people generally celebrate Christmas and Easter because that is the accepted pattern of behavior in society, not because they believe in the religious values behind the celebration.
It is also because most people come from religions that celebrate Christmas and Easter. In Australia Christianity is the predominant religion so most people are that religion even if they do not attend church or other christian traditions.

Good one!! NOT!!! because those holidays were around BEFORE the religions that claim them now. Both holidays have their roots in PAGAN festivals, the christmas tree, easter eggs, yule log, easter bunny, etc etc are all ancient traditions that have nothing to do with the god of christianity. I still celebrate easter and christmas as they were celebrated BEFORE god, jesus and the bible were ever involved... in case you dont know many fundamentalist christians and jehovahs refuse to celebrate these holidays because they admit they are pagan festivals that have really nothing to do with their religion... so there put that in your pipe and smoke it!!! and next time do some research on your own "religious holidays" before making yourself out to be an ignorant fool....

Well, I guess I could ask christians the same question.
Why do christians celebrate Pagan holidays and rituals?
I personally dont celebrate Easter. I celebrate Spring and Opening day. The bit about a 6' rabbit delivering eggs has always been hard for me to swallow. My wife claims to be christian so I begrudgingly go along with it for her sake and the kids.
I do celebrate the Winter solstice, which christians refer to as Christmas. I celebrate Love, Life, Giving, kindness and tolerance. Im not offended if you wish me "Merry Christmas". I see it as a nice gesture. You can say christmas, holiday, kwanza, solstace or whatever you wish. Its just a word attached to it.
I realize that your question was meant to be spiteful and self-rightious. Thats just something you will have to work out yourself.
Happy Christmas

Both Christmas and Easter predate the bible and originally had nothing to do with Judaism or Christianity.
Today, these are cultural holidays for family gatherings.
Why do most professing Christians celebrate Christmas and Easter, and not go to church or donate to any religious cause?
Same reason, believe it or not!

Why do Christians celebrate Christmas and Easter when they are clearly PAGAN rituals?
Jesus wasn't born in December. December 25th is the observance of the winter solstace (PAGAN).
What does a tree have to do with Christ? (PAGAN)
What does the bunny and egg have to with the ressurection? They don't. Fertility anyone?? (PAGAN)
So, you see... we as atheists simply get a free day off or two from work and share gifts and food with others.. But why would a Christian celebrate these two days when clearly they're not Christian! Tsk tsk!

Christmas has turned into a commercialized holiday, what does Santa, elves and raindeer have to do with god, but they are important to chirstmas. And Easter, ever heard of the easter bunny? What do baskets of candy and colored eggs have to do with god.

I have been thinking the same thing for years I'm glad you think so too. I live in Puerto Rico and a lot of people celebrate"christmas as Santa Day but during Easter they make a big deal about the whole thing so it's ok. But yeah, I don't get it.
