I've been following the adkins diet and it works. The first time I lost 45 pounds and felt great, but I couldn't stick with it. So when I came off the diet all the weight came back plus more! I love fruit so I was wondering about it for a diet. High blood pressure runs in my family so I don't know about all the sugar consumption. Please help, any advice will be appreciated. Thanks!!!

fruit diet is a very bad idea- too much fructose can lead to yeast (candida) overgroth, kidney problems and diabetes. fuctose is not that easy for body to digest - kidneys do the job but they can get really damaged by it.
find daily calorie intake calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours - it optimizes your metabolism)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have protein (lean meat, legumes etc) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min, light weight training
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, pasta etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

You should not eat just all one thing. The Adkins diet is not healthy because in time you will notice a gray tone to your skin or you will appear to look a little dead. Plus too much protein is not healthy either. Long term side affects.
Eating just fruit isn't good because it is a natural sugar but it is still sugar.
You need a well balanced meal so if you want to do a diet eat like they ate in the older days.
Breakfast- glass of juice, glass of milk, bowl of cereal or an egg (not fried) a piece of toast or oatmeal.
Snack have some peanuts or a piece of fruit
Lunch Have a sandwich exchange bread using a lettuce as your wrap or use a high fiber bread, exchange your chips for celery and carrot sticks or banana or apple slices
Snack Have a cheese stick or a yogurt...stay away from high sugar yogurts
Dinner Have a grilled fish or chicken or pork chop grilled even a steak once a week is fine enjoy some broccoli, spinach, or something green or orange. Sweet potato or salad if you use a dressing use a light not a fat free or a regular and if you don't have to use fresh fruit squeezed over your grilled meat and your salad. Keep the other half of your fruit for your snack the next day.
Make sure you drink a bottle water in the morning, during each meal and throughout the day. If you hate water change it up with a green tea or a all natural juice esp. grapefruit juice not cocktail.
Once a week enjoy something that you really like but enjoy it in moderation.
The great news is that you will be able to eat fresh variety with some great protein while shedding pounds and enjoying life.
The bad news is that you can't eat bacon anymore all the time. Haa just playin' Enjoy

Diets like this might help you lose weight but the inside of your body suffers greatly as you deprive it of nutrients that are needed to keep you healthy, especially your brain.

Why don't you see a nutritionist who can help guide you with this so you can learn more about what your body needs to stay healthy? Or join Weight Watchers and learn at the meetings what you need to keep yourself healthy as they also teach you about portion control.

Even the Adkins Diet can deprive the body and can be dangerous and when one is young, you can go on things like that and do fairly well but what you need to look at are the long-term problems that could come from the diet when you get older. Depriving the brain when you are young can definitely cause you problems when you are older.

Be careful, be wise

Please just read about nutrition and try to follow a healthy diet. Its good you like fruit but any food plan that focuses on just one food group isn't going to be something you can live with everyday.

Work more movement into your life, it can be walking , exercising or doing yard work . The key to keeping weight off is changing your lifestyle, not changing your diet.

If you're trying to shed some pounds, you have to eat a well balance diet... NOT just fruits alone. Add a little protein but more on veggies. Cut back on sugar (which fruit has a lot!) And drink more water.

All of those fad diets which advocate one type of food and ban another are pointless and usually dangerous. You should read Consumer Reports' June issue. It has a huge review of diets, and The Atkins Diet is at the bottom of the pile.

I am not an expert but I don't have faith in any of these diets. Eat everything in moderation and eat little amounts of saturated fats and sweets. If you don't eat enough carbs, you won't have energy, if you don't eat protein you will loose muscle. Eat carbs, proteins, fruits, and vegetables and work out more often. Take a walk, or anyhing to burn more calories.

Too much fructose to go to a fruity extreme.........too much potassium in bananas etc you know you need a healthy balance, why fight it. More veges, fruit .nuts, berries, and some breads, oily fish, lean meat and omega 3 oils....and at least 3 weight training sessions a week......... the weight training may make you a bit heavier, BUT youll be healthier and wont have so much fat.
