Entrapment is when a law enforcement Officer entices you to commit a crime you wouldn't have otherwise committed. If you are breaking the law by speeding, they are under no obligation to advertise themselves to you.

Yes! I have no legal requirement to advertise my location to the general public when running radar or watching traffic in general. Entrapment would only be a factor if I were in the vehicle with you, operating the gas pedal, making you speed. All drivers are required to keep their vehicles under control at all times, including keeping it at the legal speed limit. Would you consider it entrapment if the officer in question was sitting with his lights off and witnessed a person rob a gas station?

He is NOT required to have his lights on at night (except when driving of course). So he can sit there and wait for you and catch you speeding - or doing other things.
No, it's not entrapment; others here have explained that well enough.
Think about it - you were speeding whether or not his lights were on........

Yes he can.
It's nowhere near entrapment. If he talked you into speeding or offered an incentive for you to speed ...... that would be entrapment.
No car has to have it's lights on if it is stationary on the side of the road.

Nope, that would be crazy to require us to advertise our location.
We can black out and run radar, watch stop lights, etc.
However, I have also been out on a traffic stop, backing up another officer. That's a grand total of two patrol cars with their blue lights going and clocked people speeding. Or pulled them over for failing to move over when passing an emergency vehicle. So for some people it probably wouldn't help them if I had one of those big flashing arrow signs behind my car that said "COP CAR! SLOW DOWN!"

The only place in the whole US I'm aware of that has a rule that police must have their headlights on at all times is Ohio.
You wouldn't be getting tickets if you were obeying the speed limit.

I think he must have his parking lights on but you might want to check with your city office first. In ohio he/she has to have their parking lights on to issue a sitation.
