You can bend notes by pressing the string sideways (a blues technique) and if you hit a string right you can get a note an octave higher (called a bell tone). On the octave fret of the guitar, if you touch just on the fret and pluck the string you will get good overtones too (also the fifth fret). You can also make a sort of trill by rapidly alternating your finger position from one fret to another (try thirds).

Another way to get a muted strum is to rest the side of ur playing hand lightly just in front of the strings as U strum. Hope this helps.

try rolling up a dollar bill and putting it under the strings, close to the bridge, that gives it a shuffle rhythm, Johnny Cash did that in the 50s.
