The best way to study well is to have a study place. A place where you can study free from distraction as well as discomfort. I would recommend a library or starbucks of some sort which is quiet and free from anything that may distract you (ex. computer, or tv).
The best way to get high marks is to always pay attention in class, ask questions if you don't understand anything, and never fall behind.

Well, start with an eye exam to see if you are taking in the information you are looking at (I should have had bifocals or reading glasses about 5 years before I did.)
Read material a few pages at a time and make a brief summary of what you have read. If the text changes topics, stop and make a note about the topic. If you have to go back into the material, do notes on 3x5 cards (or similar) and title each card so you can scan them or make a database that you can sort by topic.
When you have a test, go back to your notes afterward and mark what came up on the test.
If you are being lectured to, make notes and learn to pick out the way the teacher accents (titles) the topics. If the teacher makes the test, note the teacher's comments on the test.

Do your homework and turn it all in on time. That counts for most of your grade anyway... If you actual do it and read the assignments, you will do great. My daughter pulled her head out this year and made all A's, she got a 3.85 for the whole year. But the first two years of high school she was just getting by...you know she enjoyed school alot more this year and had a great time with the teachers, they want to help kids who want to learn and when you do good it makes them look good and they are all for that. Just try real hard to do all your homework and make good use of time in class so you won't have as much.

The key to studying and good grades is memory. You have to learn techniques to help you remember things that will be on the tests. You memorize mostly with repetition, association, and testing yourself until you can go through all the material from beginning to end without forgetting any of it. For Math it just takes practice. Do lots of problems until you do them faster and make less mistakes. for reading and writing you need to be very thorough and check things over and over to find errors and fix them. Do as much writing as possible, this will help your reading comprehension, vocabulary, and a lot of other skills.

Another useful thing to do if you have to memorize a lot of information is to write out a summary of what you need to know. The act of condensing the information and picking out the key points makes you think actively about the material, so you won't get to the end of a page and not be able to remember what you just read.

In order to be an effective studier you must first be organized!! Once you are organized you need to make sure you do not put studying off if you learn something home go home and reread it that night to really help it stick....... Some people also suggest scheduling times that you will study at. The main thing is not to put things off! Good Luck!

Read, review, test yourself. Good luck. Other than that your parents are right, "sit down," "study," "you don't need friends," well I don't know about the last one.
