I believe that global warming may be true, but I don't believe tha ther is evidence that it is caused my human activity. I believe that we are in an dynamic climate that will change whit or without people.

The climate is dynamic and the planet is always in a state of either warming or cooling. We know the mechanisms that cause these natural variations, we know how much they can warm or cool the planet by. We also know that it's not possible that natural events alone could warm the planet at anything close to the rate at which it's currently warming.

There's no great mystery as to how global warming works, the science behind it is quite simple. It's nothing more than a simple physical property of the greenhouse gases and the more of them there are the warmer the planet becomes. The concept is the same as putting on warm clothing on a cold day - the thicker the layer the more insulation.

The Earth's temperature rises fastest when we're coming out of an ice age (even the skeptics agree with this). The end of the last ice age saw a very rapid rise in temperatures, some 7 degrees C over 7,500 years. A rise of nearly one thousandth of a degree per year, an extreme natural change. Temperatures are now rising 17 times as fast.

Personally, I Agree with you. I think it goes much deeper detail wise, but the bottom line is, the climate fluxuates on its own, we didn't do anything to make it any higher or lower. Then again, there's significant scientific evidence on both sides if the arguement. But people should be aware that Al Gore's movie, "An Inconvenient Truth," is not 100% true. He says 500/500 scientists agree that global warming is caused by human's.... I heard a report in which 40,000 scientists formed a comittee saying global warming is a part of the earth's cycle.

Take a look at the lyrics to this song by Billy Joel, this is what I think in terms of Global Warming:
We didn't start the fire
It was always burning
Since the world's been turning
We didn't start the fire
No we didn't light it
But we tried to fight it

It's good that you question what everyone else thinks. But as said before, all the evidence is there. Besides, it doesn't matter if humans are the ones who caused global warming. We have all contributed in some ways to it and now must help clean it up. It is time to really use alternate fuels and conserve energy. There are plenty of ways we can turn this global warming thing around. All we have to do is start recycling, saving energy and etc.

It's true that our climate is dynamic. However based on deep cores that have been drilled going back thousands of years that reveal past climate patterns, you can see a rapid acceleration of a warming climate that correlates with the rise of homo sapiens and the products of our civilization.
It is possible that there may be something else going on, but this is the evidence we have so far.

The peer reviewed scientific data shows clearly that it's real. And AS A RESULT there is a massive scientific consensus. This will be a little long, because it contains substantiation.

"I wasn’t convinced by a person or any interest group—it was the data that got me. I was utterly convinced of this connection between the burning of fossil fuels and climate change. And I was convinced that if we didn’t do something about this, we would be in deep trouble.”

Vice Admiral Richard H. Truly, USN (Ret.)
Former NASA Administrator, Shuttle Astronaut and the first Commander of the Naval Space Command

Here are two summaries of the mountain of peer reviewed data that convinced Admiral Truly and the scientific community, short and long.

http://www.ipcc.ch/SPM2feb07.pdf

The real proof is in the references in these documents. It is necessary to go to a library and read them. Scientists do that routinely.

And, as a result, there is a massive scientific consensus. Every major scientific organization agrees.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientific_opinion_on_climate_change

Virtually all climatologists agree:

http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/full/306/5702/1686

Here's what scientists say about the consensus:

"Regardless of these spats, the fact that the community overwhelmingly supports the consensus is evidenced by picking up any copy of Journal of Climate or similar, any scientific program at the AGU or EGU meetings, or simply going to talk to scientists (not the famous ones, the ones at your local university or federal lab). I challenge you, if you think there is some un-reported division, show me the hundreds of abstracts at the Fall meeting (the biggest confernce in the US on this topic) that support your view - you won't be able to. You can argue whether the consensus is correct, or what it really implies, but you can't credibly argue it doesn't exist."

Dr. James Baker - NOAA

"There's a better scientific consensus on this [climate change] than on any issue I know - except maybe Newton's second law of dynamics. Global warming is almost a no-brainer at this point,You really can't find intelligent, quantitative arguments to make it go away."

Dr. Jerry Mahlman, NOAA

All this is why smart people in all walks of life who are not liberals or environmentalists have accepted global warming as real. Just a few examples:

"Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich challenged fellow conservatives Tuesday to stop resisting scientific evidence of global warming"

"I agree with you (Gore) that the debate over climate change is over."

Rep. Dennis Hastert, Republican, Illinois

Hastert wouldn't agree with Gore about where to go for lunch, but he agrees about this.

"Global warming is real, now, and it must be addressed."

Lee Scott, CEO, Wal-Mart

When Scott says this, he annoys his major supplier, China.

The real question is why have deniers fallen for a few skeptics, whose arguments are refuted by the data.

Even if one assumes people aren't causing global warming our entire civilization has developed in a certain climate range. We may only be able to exist, or at least exist comfortably, in that range. If we can keep our climate in that friendly normal range by our human actions even if it's moving outside of that range and it isn't caused by human actions we must still do everything we can to keep it in that range. Of course we have to do it in a common sense effective way making the biggest emission reductions first and working our way down the list without getting distracted by the smaller changes until they're our only emission reduction methods left.

You would be right on the money there Bobby. This phenomenom is neither new nor caused by us humans. it has been around for a long time. It's caused by the Sun going through its annual great cycle By annual for it (the Sun) is around 13000 of our years, You may or may not have noticed that all the planets in our solar system are heating up (not just dear old planet Earth) eg. Mars is warmer now than it was 10 years ago. Venus is brighter now than 10 years ago. All these greenies would have us believe its our fault, ie our factories on Mars are putting out more pollutants than ever before etc, The leaking CFCs from our refrigerating units on Venus is causing it to become hotter and therefore brighter. likewise the ice on the Ice Moon Calypso is getting thinner because of heat produced (By us? hell no! by the sun.)

definite. And alot of it has to do with effective feedback loops... hollow in ozone = environment is far less able to block out ultraviolet easy and as a result regulate the temperature selection of the planet, melting icebergs = an advance in sea point (and with the help of the greater desirable absorbance of the warmth of water whilst in comparison with the reflective applications of ice, partly because of the fact of their colour and dark/lightness) and further warming, as a result, greater melting of icebergs, etc. yet another element, the exchange (pendulum-esque swings from iceage to warming) it truly is often very slow is occurring at a tremendously speeded up value... in any case, no remember if or no longer someone chooses to beleive that international warming is brought about by utilising guy would not negate the plain actuality that pumping those sort of nasties (i.e., CO2, methane, CFCs, etc.) isn't effective and looks by utilising all money owed to be greater risky than ...the different of risky. i do no longer beleive that no remember if or no longer we are going to kill ourselves off would desire to be the identifying factor as to as quickly as we % to provide up poisioning the only homestead we've. whilst the question will become "how plenty sh*t do we live in before we drown in it?" the subject is worse than basically determining no remember if the who or the what's the reason of world warming.

How do you account for the exponential increase in carbon dioxide concentrations in the atmosphere since the Industrial Revolution? A guy in Hawaii has been documenting the increase since 1952. Since carbon dioxide is released by the burning of fossil fuels, and there is too much excess to be absorbed by trees or even by the ocean, who else can we blame but ourselves?

Who do you think is responsible for this catastrophe! It is a man made problem, where was all this g w in early 60's. It is we who in the hunger of getting more and more invented things to suit our convenience that the climate has gone to take a suicidal change.......called global warming
