I have a soar throat (severe) and my mom keeps telling me that water with salt would make it better because it would kill the bacteria. I keep telling her that it would only make it worse my deepening the wounds in my throat. Is she right or am I?

depends on what she is telling you to do with the salt water,,,, and what the soar throat is caused from.
gargle with it,,,,, and with warm water, and sea salt if by chance you have it.
it will kill the bateria as she has said.it will .... and will not make it worse by "deepening the wounds"... i have no idea why you even think it will do that...... it will not.

Salt is not going to kill bacteria. It does help reduce the inflammation some, that's why mothers have recommended it for years. Also hot water with a little lemon juice does the same thing. Time or real medicine is the only way to take care of the sore throat.

Sorry but she is right! The salt helps heal the wounds. Also some hot tea with honey and lemon will sooth it. But do the salt water several times a day! Hope you get feeling better!

yes it really works i had a cold 2 weeks ago and my boyfriend told me 2 use salt and water and it worked so dont be scared 2 try it

yes. also try hot tea with lots of fresh squeezed lemons (fights the bacteria) and honey (soothes the throat, and helps it relax)

warm water with salt. gargle and spit out it helps i do it when i am sick make the water as warm as you can
