Strabismus is "crossed eyes." It's due to problems with specific cranial nerves. The eye can turn in towards the nose (esotropia) or turn out to the ears (exotropia), it can affect one eye or both eyes.

It doesn't effect anyone's mood directly, but 1. It might be a sign of something else that is wrong with the brain. or 2. The person with strabismus might be so aware of the problem that it causes them to be self-conscious about how they look and what other people think of them. Some people might stare at them, for example.

A lot of people with mental retardation, epilepsy, or other neurological problems have strabismus. But some people have strabismus but they are otherwise perfectly healthy.

Strabismus can usually be corrected with surgery or special glasses.
