You have to do some research before the time comes and you need to be in contact with a vet.
I just do not understand how people jump into things without any knowledge of what they are doing. Animals deserve at least the respect of knowledge. If you have no idea what you are doing maybe you should rethink breeding and get the dog spayed.

Usually the dogs natural instincs take over. She will give birth, and it will be covered, she will lick it clean. The most important thing is that the babies need to stay with the mom so they get the first milk. It has all kinds of nutrients and sickness fighting things in it. Do not scare the dog, she should stay in one place to have all the babies. Make her a nice space where you know she is comfortable and feels safe. Is it a big dog? Get some old blankets or sheets that are clean and make her a nice bed. Some people use a large box and cut an opening that is easy to get in and out of. Let her do her thing and don't interupt her and everything should be fine. It is very neat to watch, but if she doesn't want you there then back off. It all depends on what kind of personality she has and how she feels when it happens. She will be a bit confused in the beginning and might cry some too. It is ok. She will most likely do a great job. If she has one and then moves somewhere else to have the rest, when she settles use a towel and very gently pick up the abandoned pup and place it with her. Good luck...babies are so cute... Sherri

You may have to help the Momma Dog get the babies out. Sometimes they need a gentle but firm pull. You should either read up on it or talk to your vet about this. A lot of things can go wrong, and breeding your dog always has a chance of losing mom and/or the puppies. This especially can happen with people who aren't educated with dogs having puppies. That's why it makes a happier and healthier dog to spay her! Good luck all the same, I hope everything works out.

Usually the mother instinctively knows what to do. It's a good idea if it is her first litter to have the vet's phone number handy just in case there are any problems.
Please get your pets spayed. There are way too many unwanted animals without homes born each year. Be part of the solution, not part of the problem.
Best wishes.

Normally the babies come out naturally.
But, now you need to find good homes for the puppies.

Your dog should do just fine on her own, sometimes there is difficulty, but usually they are perfectly fine. If you notice she has a puppy on it's way out, but can't seem to get it out, then you put your hands gently on the puppy and help to guide it out .... gently pull, but not too hard, you don't want to hurt the puppy. If the puppy comes out and you see it's not breathing, put your finger in its mouth & clear out the mucus, then put your mouth around it's nose & mouth & blow. Good Luck & congrats "grandma"

I'm not trying to be smart w/ you but go buy the book, "Dog Breeding for Dummies", everything is in there, what you need, what you need to do, and how you do it... after your dog has puppies... SPAY HER!

No, they will probably come out on their own. However, make sure that they can breathe once they're out! If not, there is something that you are supposed to do to help them out with that...I forget what it is called, though. Good luck!
