Not really that good.

If you want to carry extra weight do it elsewhere.
The reason is that in carrying the extra weight on your ankles, you get used to the extra swing time(like a pendulum) due to those weights and adjust to it. But then when they are gone, for instance at the big race you have been training for, you start to race but are used to running with the swing rate of a weighted ankle, not an unweighted ankle. This increases the accident rate of ankle-weight wearers.

they are good - the more you weight the more calories you burn. ankle weights add extra weight so you burn more.

I do not think they are a good idea. I have heard many people say that they are not helpful and not good for running.
