There is a recall on certain toothpastes made in China which have diethylene glycol (DEG) as an ingredient. This is similar to a component of antifreeze and can cause various problems.
"Diethylene glycol (DEG) is a glycol compound possessing toxicity similar to ethylene glycol. It is a Central Nervous System depressant and potent kidney and liver toxin when ingested. It is commonly used in industry as a solvent, a thickening agent, a humectant, and as a component in antifreeze and gas conditioning formulations.
"DEG has been improperly used as a low-cost substitute for glycerin and propylene glycol in pharmaceutical preparations resulting in various lethal poisoning incidents in humans worldwide."
To me, the biggest problem is that DEG is also known by over 30 other names.
So far the list of recalled product includes:
Exported by Gold Credit International:
Cooldent Fluoride
Cooldent Spearmint
Cooldent ICE
Dr. Cool Toothpaste
Everfresh Toothpaste
Superdent Toothpaste
Clean Rite Toothpaste
Oralmax Extreme Action Toothpaste
Oral Bright Fresh Spearmint Flavor
Bright Max Peppermint Flavor
Exported by Suzhou City Jinmao Daily Chemicals Co:
ShiR Fresh Mint Fluoride Paste
This list will be updated as needed and it can be found on the FDA website at: http://www.fda.gov/ora/fiars/ora_import_ia6674.html

It could be, the only one that really knows is Proctor and Gamble and I would not trust that company with anything. Crest toothpaste is terrible for you. It contains laurel sulfate for one. This substance is put in there to cause suds. Laurel Sulfate opens the pores and allows germs and infection to penetrate the tissues (like your gums or scalp when it is used in hair care products). It also contains fluoride. Fluoride is one of the most toxic substances for the human body. It is true that the body needs very minute amounts of it as a trace mineral, but when consumed in the quantity found in toothpastes as Crest, it is harmful. Fluoride treatments by dentists are terrible! It has been proven time and again that when fluoride is added to water supply systems, iodine deficiencies are created in people. Fluoride competes with iodine for absorption in the body.
Even the toothpaste companies put warning labels on toothpastes that contain fluoride to "keep away from children" and yet they still recommend it's use! Many cultures in the world that do not use this garbage do not have cavities like we do in the U.S.
Crest is NOT best! I would go to a health food store and look for a good toothpaste like Peelu that does not contain laurel sulfate or flouride and does a great job on your teeth. Improve your diet and especially your digestion and that is the best defense against teeth problems and infections.
The teeth and gums are where many low grade infections happen that promote biofilm production that leads to cancer. It is important to not neglect your teeth and to promote health to the body.
To check to see if you are iodine deficient, just put a golf ball size smear of tincture of iodine on your chest. It should still be there in 24 hours. If not, you are deficient. It is an easy test and this usually enlightens people to the problem. Iodine is used by the whole body for health and if you are deficient, it can create lots of problems with all the organs, including the skin. The thyroid only uses about 3% of the iodine content in the body; the rest is used by all the other organs.
good luck to you

Crest is made by Proctor & Gambel, a household products company. They have worldwide outlets, but not in China.
They do have an outlet in Japan.
