I want to lose between 60-70 pounds. I have a gym membership and I plan on working out 4-5 times a week. Will eliminating meat from my diet help me lose weight? Any tips?

Giving up meats is an excellent way to cut back on saturated fats and cholesterol. However, an individual can still exceed the recommended daily caloric intake by eating too much food from the other food groups.

On a personal note, a few years ago my doctor put me on steroids for a kidney problem. In less than two months, I went from weighing 139 to weighing 184! Since I had turned 40 that same year (plus I had stopped smoking), many of friends and family members told me that I had finally gotten my “middle aged spread”.

I vehemently refused to accept this. While still taking the prescription steroids, I put myself on a 1200-1400 calorie diet and began exercising religiously 5 to 6 times per week, for a minimum of 40 minutes per session. (Actually, in the summer I rode my bike 8 miles to our beach and 8 miles back home. In the winter, I bought a stationary bike and tried to burn, at least, 500 calories per session.). But going to the gym works just as well.

Additionally, everyday I would log EVERYTHING down that went into my mouth that had calories. At the end of the day, I would tally the calories up. Every now and then I went over 1400 calories, but I never beat myself up, I just got back on the wagon on the following day.

I began using Splenda instead of sugar (Splenda has 0 calories), I started eating “light” or “lite” bread instead of regular bread (bread is 80 calories per slice; light is 40 calories per slice), and I began drinking diet soda instead of regular pops. Even though I had begun to eat a salad at every dinner, I made certain that the dressings did not exceed 45 calories per serving (like Kraft fat free dressings—people often think that eating salads causes them to lose weight, but sometimes dressings have as much as 100 or more calories per serving which defeats the purpose of dieting).

I ate approximately 300-350 calories per meal; and I ate a meal every 4 hours. I also made it a point to never let myself get too hunger and to NEVER leave the house hungry. Leaving the house hungry can cause you to grab something like a Whooper with fries that has more 1200 calories in one whop.

Nonetheless, before taking anyone's advice about weight loss, make sure that your physical status will allow you to diet and exercise. It is often wise to get a physician's consent FIRST.

Though, my answer was very lengthy, I hope you found it helpful in some way. Good luck!

Oh, by the way, within in 3 months, I went from 184 to 140. At the age of 48, I am still maintaining my weight by eating sensibly and exercising at least 5 times per week.
Again, GOOD LUCK!!!

P.S. It is very helpful to have friends and family work with you. Like not bringing over donuts or pizza and simply respecting the fact that you’re trying to reach a goal (maybe even jumping on the bandwagon with you) .

Vegetarian Lose Weight

2016-11-12 04:37:34 · answer #3 · answered by Anonymous · 0 0

My sister and co worker are both vegetarians. Both are overweight even though they have cut out meat. There are many ways to lose weight without converting to becoming a vegetarian but it all comes down to your own personal choice and what you think will work best for you.

When I was 18 (now 28) all i did was portion out the meat that I ate during the day...say if i had a piece of grilled chicken at night (which is healthy) i would have a portion that was no bigger than my palm and not too thick. I was eating a calorie controlled diet over 5 months with all meat included (as long as they were trimmed fat cuts) and I lost 40lb.

But everyone to their own. If you feel more comfortable choosing a no meat diet then go ahead and try it. Just as long as you find other ways to get your protein each day. Even try going to the doctor and see what he/she thinks - it wont hurt to ask for advice ;) cheers!

There are three main ways to lose weight quickly.

1) Use only water as liquid and eliminate all other liquid drinks from your diet. You must drink as much water as possible every day. You must drink about half of your weight. If you have weight of 200 pounds then you must drink about 100 oz of water.

2) The interval between the eating is very important. If you eat once, then you must eat next after 4 hours. You must take breakfast regularly. In the night eat your food three hours before going to bed.

3) Walking is very good. You must walk as much as you can. Walk everywhere you can. Use of elevators and escalators must be reduced and instead of these you must climb stairs more often.

These are some of the fastest ways to lose weight. By just following the simple steps, you can lose your weight very quickly. You must consult your doctor if want to change your diet or exercise routine.

No. I thing that this is wrong approach. You need some well balanced diet plan. If you become vegetarian it won't help you to lose your weight. My best friend was overweight whole her life and she lost over 100 pounds. She did that with her strong will and huge motivation, She wrote life story about her obesity at:
MYDIETSTORY.NET Her story can be very helpful and useful.

I've lost 5 kilos in my first week. It's my 10th day and I have included salad with some protein (eg. egg/ lean chicken) as you suggested. After 4 years of trying, the fat is finally coming off. It truly feels like magic!

not necessarily, if you don't know what foods to eat to replace meat you'll end up eating a lot of carbs and fattening foods like bread, pasta and potatoes. If you really want to take this route talk to a nutritionist. Instead, try eating small meals throughout the day, every 3-4 hours, avoid sugery snacks and try counting your daily calories/fat grams.
