Personality disorder is a form of mental illness. It takes a trained professional to diagnose what form of mental illness a person has...whether it is personality disorder, Bipolar or Depression. There are many, many forms of mental illness. None are catching and all are treatable to varying degrees. With proper medication and treatment -- usually with a psychiatrist or therapist -- people can lead normal and productive lives. Often a relapse happens when an individual thinks they are "cured" and discontinue treatment and medication. At this time there is no way to get over a mental illness or be cured from one, and each case varies from individual to individual. Because each person is unique and may have the symptoms of certain disorders (may have multiple forms of mental illness) does not mean that there is a "catch all" treatment as with other diseases. Finding the right balance of medication can often take years and then there is no promise it will work forever with that person. So, in conclusion mental illness = personality disorder and there is no cure only treatment.
Peace be with you.

You don't get over those things and technically a personality disorder is a mental illness. It's more you receive treatment for life or for a certain amount of time until you progress to a certain point. And there's always a chance of relapse.
