1] eat properly - lean protein, low fat dairy, whole grains, lots of fruits and veggies - avoid fried, fast, and junk food - even diet
2] drink 1/2 gallon of water a day
3] take a quality multivitamin with minerals every day [
sometimes a little bit of one element can make a big difference in hair, skin, etc. ]
4] get it trimmed [ about 1/4 inch ] every 8 weeks
5] treat hair with proper shampoo, conditioner, and weekly deep conditioner
6] don't brush hair if it is wet - it will cause split ends and breakage
7] get enough sleep, and exercise - keep the nutrients pumping through

well sometimes the more you u let it grow without cutting it the less faster it grows... when your hair grows to your shoulders like you said trim it, that will get rid of all the dead hair and grow more healthy hair... hope this helps!! good luck!!!
