I have heard this term before, and wonder if it means its a cake that needs no cooking and is made in a punch bowl?

Let me clarify the question. I asked WHAT a "Punch Bowl" cake was.

I was given several GOOD recipes, reding the ingredients and the directions for making them has given me a pretty good idea of what one is.

Anyone want to try a DEFINITION???

The cake still needs to be cooked, but as opposed to putting the cake on a cake plate, or something similar, the cake is layered in a punch bowl, and is scooped out, rather than cut into slices. It's in a punch bowl due to all the layering ingredients. Hope that's a good enough definition for you.

Punch Bowl Cake

"This recipe looks best when prepared in a clear punch bowl, because you can see all of the layers."

12 servings

1 (18.5 ounce) package yellow cake mix
1 (16 ounce) package frozen whipped topping, thawed
1 (5 ounce) package instant vanilla pudding mix
1 (20 ounce) can crushed pineapple, drained

Prepare the cake mix as directed by the manufacturer. Bake in a 9x13 inch pan, or two 8 inch round pans. When the cake is cool, split in half, horizontally. Prepare the vanilla pudding according to package directions.

Crumble half of the cake into the bottom of the punch bowl. Then put a layer of 1/3 of the whipped topping, a layer of 1/2 of the pudding, then a layer of 1/2 the can of pineapple. Repeat the layers in the same amounts, and top with the remaining whipped topping. Keep refrigerated until serving.

Shortening is quite greasy fat. "Shortening could be created from animal fat (lard), yet is in maximum situations a hydrogenated vegetable oil this is solid at room temperature." Crisco works.
